The cdrom drives in our lab machines are setup to use the automounter. The automounter will automatically mount the drive for you when you access it, and unmount it when it is not being used. The cdrom will be automatically mounted under /cdrom once you access that directory. You can use most normal Ext2fs (linux) file commands on the cdrom then. Since a cdrom is read-only, commands to write to the device will not work. cd /cdrom

No, viruses cannot be transmitted when casually using BitWise. This is true for one-on-one conversations, conferences, whiteboards or any non-file transfer activity. The only way to get a virus using BitWise would be to actively accept a file transfer from another user and then run the file sent to you. For this reason, we always encourage our users to be cautious when accepting files from others, just like you would be when receiving email attachments.

Because BitWise is only used for transmission of data (not storage of data), our access controls and logs of who is granted what rights (i.e. who has access to use BitWise and thus receive the data) is sufficient for HIPAA in most environments. That is to say, the information being transmitted over BitWise must come from somewhere--which would be your HIPAA-compliant environment; BitWise is only used for transmission, and our transmission encryption and access controls meet HIPAA guidelines.

Absolutely not! BitWise Personal is retaining all of its features, and will continue to receive enhancements in the future. No features were removed from Personal when Plus was released. BitWise Plus adds features that benefit the security-conscious (a.k.a. those with healthy paranoia), and since many users would probably not use the Plus capabilities even if they were available, Personal can hardly be called crippleware.

The email address associated with your BitWise username can be updated by using the Preferences after logging in to Web Services. Once you enter your new address, you will receive an email that will contain a link for you to follow. After you follow that link, your new email address will be confirmed and entered into your user record.

BitWise has "web bugs" that allow you to display your BitWise status (Online, Away, Offline) from your personal web site; you can even link to a special site that shows your BitWise directory information.
