Although academic preparation is of key importance when applying to an engineering program, getting involved in extracurricular activities pertaining to engineering can give students invaluable exposure. High school classes in algebra I and II, trigonometry, biology, physics, calculus, chemistry and computers can determine if he/she has the aptitude and determination to study engineering.

Current students usually register for Spring classes Mid October, Summer Term registration begins approximately 3rd week of October and Fall registration begins late February, early March. CLAWS Registration is an on-going process and students will be notified through I-mail regarding their designated time slots prior to registration. Alll students will be allowed to register based on the credit hours earned, not the number of credits you will have after the current term.

An engineering degree will teach students how to become a problem solver, be creative and communicate ideas, improve writing and presentation skills, develop time management skills, become an entrepreneur and understand business processes. Engineering curricula vary from school to school; however, most schools do not require students to declare a specific engineering discipline until the end of his/her sophomore year.

A student has to come to the Health Center to be excused from classes. If a day student is sick at home, a parent must call the Health Center (860-435-3231). Boarding students unable to attend class for the day will receive a “Red Card” from the Infirmary that they must hang on the door of their room acknowledging that they are sick and in their room for the day. Faculty and staff are informed of student illnesses via a “Red Card Report” which is sent daily by email.

NO! Institute classes are open to EVERYONE, whether attending college or not. Classes are available during the morning, afternoon, and evening to accomodate all class and work schedules. There are classes available at other institue locations as well, (See Henderson Institute in the South, North Las Vegas, and West Charleston Institutes) to help you find one that fits your needs.

Access to Engineering Workstation Lab computers is limited to engineering students, and non-engineering students taking courses in the College of Engineering.

After students are fully admitted and have received an acceptance letter from the Office of Admissions and Student Records, they may register at one of Casper College’s registration days. Students will meet with a faculty advisor in their area of interest and will then register for class on Casper College’s Web Advisor program.

In general, students can not take U of I classes for credit while they are attending the IEI unless they have already been admitted to the university. However, IEI students in the upper intermediate and advanced levels may choose to audit (attend but not earn credit) a U of I course, if it does not conflict with their IEI class schedule. The IEI will help you determine whether there are appropriate courses for you to audit and if so, will help you make arrangements to do this.

Yes. We actively support double engineering majors and pairing engineering with other disciplines as a double major. Students at Duke frequently double major in sciences such as computer science, physics, mathematics, economics, and public policy studies. Additional interests as diverse as art, music, psychology, or any of the social sciences and humanities are actively supported, as can courses required to prepare for application to medical, law, or business school.

Yes. We encourage our students to take advantage of foreign academic opportunities through Duke's Study Abroad office and Pratt’s International Honor’s Program, and more than 27% of our undergraduate students do study abroad. A wide range of arrangements are possible, including students spending a few weeks, a summer, a semester or longer in an international locale.

While this differs slightly for different individuals, the general rule of thumb is to study 2 to 3 hours for every hour of class time, including lab classes. Think of college as your full time job—you’ll want to put in your 40 hour work week with your classes, labs and studying. The best thing to do is to develop schedule of your classes, labs, social events, study groups, and other work you need to do (do laundry now and again, okay?).

The first step would be to obtain a transfer application. Once you receive the application, read it carefully and complete it accurately. Submit the completed application with the appropriate application fee. a Systems Design Engineering undergraduate student, you will engage in several design workshops which consist of devising a solution to a problem using a specific approach. The design team implements the solution through prototypes and proceeds to test and evaluate the solution. The design team that the undergraduate student is a part of is not like a high school team. The teams in SyDe are, most often, dynamic and effective and all members contribute equally for the better of the whole.

Yes. Depending on the second major chosen, you may also end up receiving two degrees (instead of a degree with a double major). This is because you need 123 credits for the EE degree, 124 for the Computer Engineering degree and only 150 credits in order to qualify for two degrees. Students who are interested in a second major or degree should first talk with staff in the ECE Undergraduate Office.

The registration system will allow a student to register for a maximum of 18 hours. Any hours over 18 is considered an overload. If the student's academic advisor wants to grant permission for a student to register for more than 18 hours, this process is initiated with a Schedule Adjustment (Drop/Add) form. The student completes the form using the course information that creates the overload.

Under a recent legislative change, homeschooled students can participate in the Post Secondary Enrollment Option and take college classes paid for by the school district. There are limits to the number of classes that can be taken and you can only participate on the same basis as a regularly enrolled student.

We currently have 18 massage tables in our facility, and that allows for instructor ratio of 1:18 when performing hands on work, but lecture classes still have 24 students with a 1:24 ration. The daytime classes tend to be smaller than the evening classes.
