What finish should I order, gloss, matte or lustre?

Ordering - FAQ
We have many customers send this question to us. For the most part, this is a personal preference and for photos of sporting events any of the three will work well. My personal favorite is matte finish, but that also goes with the many of the photos that I have on the wall already. Gloss tends to show color the best, it also can be harder to see with light reflections shining off it. Gloss is also susceptible to fingerprints showing. Matte does not have the shine that gloss has.

The difference between paper finishes hinges on two values, contrast, and paper surface. Contrast refers to the ability of a paper to record a range of tones from the most extreme white to the richest black. Nearly all photographs will have a full range of tones, but depending on the type of paper you use one can either highlight the differences (with a high-contrast paper) or subdue them (with lower-contrast) depending on your preference and purpose.

What is the difference between a Satin finish, a Semi Gloss finish and a High Gloss finish?

Welcome to Knox Hardwood Flooring
The Satin finish is a matte finish and the easiest to maintain. Because it has a low sheen, it is very forgiving insofar as showing scratches, dents, and wear and tear over time. The Semi Gloss finish has some shine and is a little harder to maintain in that it will show scratches, dents and wear and tear sooner. The High Gloss finish is the hardest to maintain in that it shows everything - dust, dirt, scratches, dents, and wear and tear in general the quickest.

Yes, a matte finish can be applied on top of the last coating. It should be applied thinly as otherwise the matte effect will not come out. It is not recommended for decks or floorboards as it is more slippery than the gloss finish. This is due to the microscopic sized glass particles which create the overall matte effect.

The sides of these holders can be of varying heights to accommodate four, five, six or seven coasters.

We use a matte varnish on match boxes and books, sewing kit booklets, and toothpick box and booklets with full coverage on the printing surface. This dulls the gloss from the inks. The charge is the same as a 2-color charge. Matte varnish may affect the shade of ink colors very slightly. Since the varnish is overprinted as a final application, it is not possible to exactly predict the final color tone.

Q: What is the difference between a matte finish and an electropolished finish on vacuum tubing?

MDC Vacuum Products. - Products FAQ'S- Flanges and Fittings
A: A matte finish is a bead blast finish on tubing exterior only. The surface has a uniform dull appearance. Most fittings are constructed with a matte finish. An electropolished finish removes a small portion of the surface of the vacuum tubing, usually both inside and out, which results in a surface that traps less water vapor than an unpolished surface. In most high vacuum and many ultrahigh vacuum applications, a matte finish is acceptable.
