LAMP is an electronic music library of classical and contemporary CDs that may be accessed across the MIT campus, including in student dormitory rooms and faculty offices. While at MIT, patrons can listen to CDs in the collection on demand, free of charge, over the MIT cable television system. We are using LAMP to research the effects of a more-accessible music library on education and music-listening behavior at MIT. More information is at http://lamp.mit.edu/.

LAMP is a joint project of the MIT Student Information Processing Board (Josh Mandel/Keith Winstein) and MIT Cable Television (Randy Winchester/Jon Ward). LAMP is generously supported by MIT iCampus (MIT/Microsoft Research) and StreetFire Sound Labs, and is supervised by Professor Hal Abelson.

If you suspect that one of your CD's is defective, please contact us immediately so we can arrange for a replacement. There are some things you should be aware of when it comes to using L/S with your Holosync soundtracks. Most important is that it's usually unwise to use two different entrainment stimuli at the same time. When you combine entrainment stimuli, there is a very strong chance that each of the stimuli will cancel each other out.

A bowed lamp should be replaced immediately along with evaluation of the lamp cooling system. This condition is a direct result of improper lamp cooling. The lamp must be controlled where the surface temperature is between 600 - 800 degrees C. If the air around the lamp is not properly controlled, this temperature will rise causing the quartz tube to soften and lose its rigidity. Adjust the cooling and airflow around the lamp to reduce the temperature of the lamp body.

Discoloration can occur for several reasons. There is natural "blackening" of the quartz tube at each end during the life of the lamp. This is the result of the electrode material depositing on the inside of the tube during its use. Discoloration of the quartz will occur over time due to natural solarization or "clouding" of the quartz. This occurs as the quartz reverts to its natural crystalline structure, which is opaque to ultraviolet energy.

It depends on usage, however, we recommend you change it on a yearly basis for maximum performance. The bulb is guaranteed to last 1,000 hours. No problem. But do not remove the acrylic by picking or peeling it off. Since acrylic penetrates the nail bed, peeling it will damage the natural nail. Using a file, buff the acrylic down almost to the natural nail and proceed with the LUME' ® Nail system process.

Remove the flashlight head by rotating it counterclockwise. Remove lamp/reflector assembly and replace it with a recommended assembly. Using a 5/32" hex wrench (included with the 10X), remove the Allen screw in the center of the spring at the base of the head. NOTE: Avoid touching glass lamp envelopes (the "bulb"). Oil from your hand will degrade the surface and affect the performance of your SUREFIRE flashlight.

Plastic coated lamps can be recycled, however they often must be stripped of their coating before they can be recycled. Shat-R-Shield's Shat-R-Kote® can be easily removed from the lamp surface by slitting the coating and peeling it away from the lamp. The coating is 16 mils thick, so it peels away easily. Some recycling companies will strip the lamps for you, but there is often an added fee for this service.

Customers which reside in countries that use 220v will receive a 220v power supply unless otherwise requested.

A high efficiency lamp utilizing an electric discharge through low pressure mercury vapor to produce ultra-violet (UV) energy. The UV excites phosphor materials applied as a thin layer on the inside of a glass tube which makes up the structure of the lamp. The phosphors transform the UV to visible lights.

If the lamp is not operating you will see a yellow brown deposit inside the lamp in addition to a bead of mercury for Gallium lamps. For iron additives you need to look very closely but metal like "filings" are visible on the inside of the lamp. You can also tell lamp type by looking at the color of the light when operational. NOTE you should never look directly or indirectly at reflected lamp light, as it is DANGEROUS.

watts is the maximum power recommended for your modeling lamp. This allows the cooling fan to maintain low internal temperatures. It is possible to use a 250-watt quartz lamp if particular care is taken. As a 250-watt bulb produces more heat, you should not operate your flash unit for extended periods of time with this bulb in place. You will need to be cautious when using this bulb, ensuring that there is adequate airflow.

A defective product is one that is considered reasonably dangerous for its intended use. "Reasonably dangerous" is determined by weighing the products benefits against its potential risks. If the risks are greater than the benefits, the product can be considered defective. The defectiveness of a product may also be established by showing the product was dangerous beyond "consumer expectations."

A product is defective when it is not fit for its intended purpose at the time it is sold due to improper design, manufacture, or marketing. Defective products can cause both property damage and personal injury. If you believe that you have been injured by a defective product, then you should do the following:

The projector and the lamp are co-dependents. The cleaner and cooler the projector is, the longer the lamp will last. By regularly cleaning the filters (every 3 months) and ensuring the projector isn't unplugged before the cooling cycle has completed, you will have given your lamp every chance for a long, fulfilling life. The 2000-3000 lamp-life hours that ALL manufacturers publish is under lab conditions.

R" lamp is a "Reflector" lamp. Most high-hats or recessed fixtures require "R" lamps to get the most efficient lighting. The reason is simple, any light that doesn't go straight down is wasted light Reflector lamps reflect the majority of the lighting down where you want it. Although some recessed fixtures can use "A" lamps (standard light bulbs) you have to lower the wattage due to heat build up and waste energy.

You need to ask your supplier of the UV material you are trying to cure. Ask them if additional UV energy in the 390nm or 420nm range will provide any benefit.

This the molecular process of the gel product bonding, or hardening. The thinner the nail bed, the more chance there is of feeling the heat sensation. Simply remove your hand from the lamp until the sensation stops. Then return your hand to the lamp and leave in to compensate for the time not exposed to the UV Light. The LUME' Nail ICE ® Gel products yellow the least in comparison to other products on the market.

Using a Web browser, patrons visit http://lamp.mit.edu/ and create programs of about 30 minutes by requesting songs from the library in a particular order. In response, an array of robotic CD jukeboxes records those songs onto a hard drive. After the program is recorded, it becomes available for all patrons to play over one of 16 analog TV channels on MIT's analog cable TV system.

Depending on conditions in your home or office, you will see dust (and other particles) settle on the edges of the misting bowl and in the water. You may wipe the bowl with a cloth or paper towel, and periodically empty out the water, wash the bowl, and refill.

Your lamp should run for approximately 30 hours before it burns out. The lifespan will vary depending on how it is used (i.e., on continuously for long periods vs. repeated brief flashes).

Since our lamps have a skin-tight coating, they can be completely immersed in a cleaning tank, rinsed, dried and quickly put back into operation. -back to top-
