There is some speculation that the early Popes may have changed their names to Greek names, as Jesus had done to St. Peter. This is based on the fact that most of the early popes were Italian or Roman and yet have Greek names. The first known pope, after Peter, to take a new name was John II in 533. You invent your own history -- it's roleplaying. Make a reason you were exiled. The history of your character and your motivations are totally yours. If you do a good job, people will have much respect for you and you'll stand out in the game world. If your background is silly or nonsensical then people will tend to not take you seriously.

The real person Tsubasa was based on asked to not be a character anymore, so he was written out of the story and didn't come back until Chapter 7.
