Moles are meat eaters while voles and gophers will eat roots, etc. The easiest way to determine the difference is to cut up an apple, place the apple next to the disturbed ground, and cover the apple with a flower pot turned upside down. Check the apple in a couple of days. If the apple has been eaten, you critter is likely a vole or gopher. A mole will not eat the apple, so if the apple remains in place, you have a mole. If you have a mole you can use Molexit to repel it from the area.
