Can I install a blower or fan kit on my fireplace after the fireplace has been installed?

Fireplaces
Many of our gas fireplace models that have louvers or grills on the front can have a fan kit added. You will want to make sure that electricity is run to the junction box underneath the fireplace first, before ordering & installing a fan kit. You can test the junction box by plugging a lamp into the junction box and switching it on and off. Also make sure the circuit breaker is not tripped.

Can a blower be installed to my fireplace?

Martin Hearth & Heating
Yes. Blowers can be installed on all Martin Hearth & Heating fireplace systems with the exception of our ISD inserts, where the blower is standard, and our radiant-faced B-vent fireplaces, which do not except a blower. They can be factory or field installed. To field install a blower, 110 v AC should be connected to the fireplace junction box at installation. Making this connection after the fireplace has been installed can be more difficult. Radiant plates must not be used with blowers.

Can a blower be added to my fireplace, gas or wood?

Fireplaces
Blowers are optional on most heat circulating (grilles on top and bottom of fireplace) units, and some hearth products the blower is standard. Adding a blower is easily accomplished if power (110 VAC) was provided to the electrical junction box of the fireplace at the time of initial installation. If power was not provided, a fan option is still possible, but installation is complicated and therefore more costly.

Will a blower promote heat transfer from a fireplace?

Martin Hearth & Heating
Yes, blowers increase the airflow across the sides and top of the firebox inner chamber. Blowers with thermal switches will actually cool these surfaces while operating; the surfaces will heat up again in the off cycle. A blower assembly without a thermal switch will facilitate the transfer of heat from the hot surfaces to the surrounding air. The BTS allows Martin Hearth & Heating blower-equipped fireplaces to cycle on and off, depending upon the temperature of the firebox inner chamber.

Will a blower increase the heat output of our fireplace and can it be added later?

FAQ - Questions about Fireplaces, Woodstoves, Mantels, etc.
Yes. Aside from the fact that all of our fireplaces radiate heat from their fronts, there is still heat that can be withdrawn from the fireplace. Using the blower increases the airflow thereby maximizing the heat being conducted from the back side of the fireplace. Adding a fan is easily done if 110 power is hooked up to the electrical box inside the unit. If power is not already at the fireplace, it still may be possible but may be more costly.
