When considering an ISDN or DSL line, know the pros and cons. Cost: ISDN through the telephone company costs an average of $60 / mo., plus a connection fee, and DSL is usually about $45 / mo. Sometimes connection fees are discounted when signing a one year term agreement (check with your provider). With ISDN, you should get 2 to 3 times faster downloads, and DSL is generally 10 - 20 times faster than dial up.

A technician will activate DSL on your telephone line and make sure the service works properly by testing it on our laptop computer. You are responsible for connecting the line to your computer. Before an Alliance technician arrives to activate DSL on your line, your computer must comply with the minimum system requirements.

First turn off the power to your DSL router, or if you have an internal DSL modem, reboot your computer. If you still not able to get online after rebooting the router and/or computer give our support dept a call at 612-395-9010. Sure, you could do that, but it's not a good idea for several reasons. First, a vast majority of ISPs won't let you legally use a residential cable modem or a DSL line to host a public server. You would have to get a more expensive business package. Second, ADSL and cable lines usually have lower upstream bandwidth than downstream bandwidth, so your site may appear to be sluggish under heavy traffic. Third, DSL and cable lines have a much lower reliability than dedicated T1 or better lines.

Normal installation time is approximately 5-10 business days from placement of your order. Installation is out of our direct control so we cannot guarantee this time frame. But your account with Internet Junction will be ready to use when your installation takes place.

This is one of the most important areas for telcos to understand. DSL lines should be properly qualified prior to deploying DSL service. The cable pair must be free of DC type faults. All shorts, grounds, cross, battery-crosses, and open cable pairs must be identified and repaired. To minimize the effects of crosstalk, keep all "like" services in the same binder group. Any disturbers such as T1/E1 or HDSL must be placed in binder groups separated from ADSL.

Unlike cable modems, your DSL is totally private and not a shared network. Note: this does not mean you cannot be hacked by someone else on the Internet, it just means that you have a separate line from you to Internet Junction, so no local neighbors can listen to your data.

If you get Residential DSL we do not recommend hosting your own server. Not to say that you are prohibited from doing this, but Residential DSL is not designed for server hosting. Many customers get Business DSL specifically for hosting servers in-house. You can host your own Web server, your own mail server, your own FTP server, your own domain server, etc.

There are several options for sharing a DSL connection between several computers. You can utilize a Hub or an Ethernet Switch to hook up multiple computers to your DSL. (There is a $5.00 monthly fee for each additional computer that you hook up to the Hub.) Another option for sharing the DSL line with more than one computer is to purchase a Cable/DSL router. A router allows you to hook up as many computers to your DSL as you like, with no additional monthly fee.

You may use any type of computer that is able to support an Ethernet card, which includes most recent models. Note that some newer computers, such as Macintosh, come with a built-in Ethernet card, in which case you do not need to install one. Check the specs on your computer or look for a RJ-45 jack (like a phone jack) in the back of your computer to determine whether an Ethernet card is already present.

Yes! With GTI's Business DSL plans you can share your single DSL line with multiple computers. Most GTI DSL plans include a 4 port Ethernet router. This means you can connect up to 4 computers to the DSL router. Every machine will need a 10 Base-T (RJ-45) Ethernet card. If you wish to hook up more than 4 computers, you simply need to have a Ethernet hub or switch.

If you qualify for DSL, we can provision it through your existing phone line. No additional telephone line is needed.

DSL is a modem technology that turns a customer's existing phone line into a three-channel data delivery system. One channel transmits voice services, so normal phone or fax usage continues whether or not you are accessing the Internet. Something to consider is that your ISDN line will normally have two phone numbers and two lines attached to it. When downgraded, the second line and number will be lost ? make sure you check this out fully before ordering as it cannot be readily reversed. As there is an extra step or two involved, ISDN line to DSL orders may take slightly longer.

Yes. The DSL digital signal is running at a much higher frequency on your phone line. We recommend you use filters on your telephones to help prevent any possible interference, though. These filters are available for free with your DSL line service from Qwest.

Yes. You can share your DSL among computers within a small home network using any of several DSL router products. The product should be capable of IP masking and NAT (Network Address Translation), and include an Ethernet hub (10Base-T or 10/100Base-T). Follow the router's installation instructions to connect your home network to the router and the router to the gateway.

You are no longer "dialing in" to the Internet. Broadview Networks Broadspeed DSL services offer an "always on" direct connection to the Internet which eliminates dialing and busy signals. You also have unlimited access to the Internet for a flat fee, without having to pay a per minute fee for a local call to dial up.

The hybrid used by the modem should only be a concern if there are problems such as excessive CRC error rates, abnormally low maximum sync capacity, or low noise margins (below 8.0 dB). If the DSL line is problem free, then the hybrid used really doesn't matter. If you are having a line problem (low sync speeds, sync instability, high CRC rates, etc.

With our TeleSurfer services, you will be able to connect only one machine to your DSL line after installation. We have tested our equipment many times and in many different locations and we have received the signals. The two way voice component however becomes extremely unreliable. We have had good luck with using two high grade filters but do not gaurantee the reliability. Vital-Link offers a Non-Voice unit as an option. Since the Vital-Link Non-Voice unit does not utilize a microphone, we have not yet experienced unreliability with the function of this equipment for DSL subscribers.

Generally no. Depending on the carrier, DSL may be added to your phone line or the carrier may provide a "local loop" or "circuit" through the local phone company from your property back to their "central office" where their DSL equipment is located. If you choose a carrier that adds DSL to your line, some line types, such as Centrex, will not work with DSL. If an appropriate line is not available, you will need to add one.
