Yes, all university housing has at least one ethernet port in each bedroom to which residents can connect to the internet. Both Apple Macintosh computers and IBM-compatible computers can be used to utilize the campus network.

Students who live at home are encouraged to subscribe to an Internet Service Provider (ISP) through either a cable modem or DSL broadband high-speed connection. Use of a broadband ISP along with NJIT’s Virtual Private Network (VPN) provides high-speed access to most of the campus-based proprietary information services. You can access NJIT network services just as if you were on campus in the library, a computer lab, or residence hall room.

Chapter 143 of the General Laws of Massachusetts prohibits smoking in schools, colleges, universities, public buildings and institutions. Worcester State College is a SMOKE-FREE campus. Smoking is not allowed in any public buildings on campus" - Worcester State College Student Handbook. Smoking is not permitted in any public or common area within the residence halls, including lounges, stairwells, confrence rooms, kitchens, hallways or bathrooms.

We recommend using the fast, stable wired connection in the residence halls. All of the residence halls and the University Apartments (except the Haseldorf Apartments) are wired for networking. This means that each room is equipped with a high-speed network connection outlet, one port per person. You will need two items in order to do this: (A) a 10/100 Base-T network card (this is not a modem) and (B) a Cat-5 “twisted pair” network cable (this is not a phone cord).

While we say that some of our residence halls are co-ed, men and women do NOT share bathroom space or floors. They may live in the same building, but there are locked doors between them.

You may complete the "Request for Housing Information" as long as you have been assigned a Bronco ID# and may complete a contract for housing if you are either fully or provisionally admitted. The residence halls are closed for maintenance and safety inspections during the breaks at the end of each semester. Students are required to vacate the halls at Thanksgiving and the end of the Fall semester and during Spring Break. Although students are not allowed in the buildings during the breaks, they are not required to remove their belongings from their rooms.

Yes. Modest amount of remote dial-in access is available free of charge to members of the Whitman community through Whitman's pool of thirty-two 33.6kbps modems. To connect to modem, you must first request a remote access account via a web-based request form at https://secureserver.whitman.edu/dialin/. To ensure fair access to this limited resource, remote connections are limited to 4 hours per session and a maximum of 8 hours per day.

Generally yes. Recent Macintosh computers come with Ethernet built in and some products may have wireless as well. The Mac hardware and operating system[OS] has extensive networking functionality built in. You should check with Apple for details of connecting a Mac to your network.

Yes, the University Wireless network is configured to allow users to connect straight through the Wireless gateway and authenticate against the VPN concentrator, allowing the user to access University resources with a fully encrypted method with the need to only log on to the VPN rather than both the Wireless network and then the VPN service. In order to establish a VPN connection over the Wireless, configure a VPN connection as per instructions on this site.
