Most homeowners find it easiest to use batt insulation. Always use unfaced batts, as the paper of foil vapor retarder can trap water vapor in the original insulation, causing moisture problems. If possible, install the new insulation perpendicular to the attic floor joists to reduce heat loss through the joists. Loose fiberglass or cellulose can also be used, by pouring it and leveling it with a board or other implement.

That's almost a judgement call on your part. If you live in a hot climate, the roof would be better. If you live in a cold climate, the attic floor would be better. But there are a couple of factors to consider. If you install No-Tear on the roof, you also need to cover the gable ends (that's the part that looks like a big triangle). Crawl spaces are real simple to understand and deal with. When you vent crawl spaces you bring in hot, humid air and cause moisture and mold problems. The ground surface is typically colder than the dew point temperature of the exterior air. The underside of crawl space floor insulation is radiation coupled to the ground surface and is very close to the same temperature of the ground.

Yes, a RecoupAerator will not transfer 100% of the relative humidity from the outside air. Instead 40-60% of the humidity in the airstream will remain outside. An ERV also expells humid air that is inside the house already. An ERV is designed to "influence" humidity in a way that tries to achieve optimum comfort for the occupants.

I would suggest a live cage trap. If you can determine what type of animal you have this will make it easier to know what size trap to purchase. The trap does need to be placed on a flat surface in an area that the animal would come into contact with it. If you spray the trap with apple juice this will make it more attractive to the animal. Noises could be caused by rats, mice, bats, squirrels, raccoons, cats or insects. Typically attic inhabitants are getting in through vents or soffits that need repair. You must locate how the animal is getting in and repair the access point or points at a time when you are sure they are not in the attic. Do Not Disturb It! Any disturbance has the potential to release asbestos fibers into the air. In most cases, you should have one square foot of net free vent area for each 150 square feet of attic floor area. Net free area is the actual area that air can flow through. With screens and louvers, you can assume that is roughly half the gross area. If you have a properly installed ceiling vapor retarder, you can reduce the vent area to one square foot per 300 square feet of attic floor area.
