Some sound cards have more than the standard 128 MIDI sounds. How can I use these with capella?

FAQ capella 2004 GB
capella passes its output via Windows to the MIDI driver of your sound card. capella therefore does not directly communicate with the sound card. As a result, capella cannot address the special features of your sound card. You can however do a MIDI-export from capella and process the file further with a sequencer that can address your sound card directly. Please distinguish between slur and tie, capella does it as well.

How can you assign other VA-3 sounds to a previously recorded Standard MIDI File?

Roland Keyboard Club
For the PARTS, you can change the volume, pan, Reverb Send, Chorus Send, the octave and the elements for specifying the sound address: CC00 corresponds to the MSB, CC32 to LSB (these two allow you to select the bank). Prg Change refers to the sound's number within the selected bank. You can also specify that the part should sound normally (Mute off), that only the notes should not be played back (Mute Note), or that the part should do nothing at all.

Is it true that the G-1000 changes the sounds of Standard MIDI Files?

Roland Keyboard Club
The G-1000 has a TONE CHANGE parameter [in the SONG (F3) menu] that indeed selects the G-1000 bank (which contains the best sounds) for all sound addresses whose Bank Select (CC00 & CC32) is not set to 00. By setting TONE CHANGE to G-800/OLD, you can, however, specify that "old" sounds may also be used. This setting needs to be saved to a Performance Memory. In the MIXER menu, select SONG (F3) and set the LINK parameter to "OFF" for all parts that should not be changed by the SMF.

OSS sound is crappy; can't I use Timidity for MIDI output?

FreeSCI - Frequently. Asked. Questions.
Well, the genius behind TiMidity has added the ability to run a TiMidity server that accepts MIDI data timidity-io.c, a fantastic piece of work that, when built into an application, takes over some syscalls near the top of the file, build it (cc -O2 -c timidity-io.c works) and link it in with the final sciv binary. Fire up the TiMidity server (timidity -ir 7777) and start sciv. You will (should!) be pleasantly surprised when you get high quality MIDI out of your non-MIDI card.

Why don't the midi sounds work?

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
In order for the midi files to work, you must have quicktime installed on your computer. More specifically, you need the "Quicktime Music" and "Quicktime Musical Instruments" components installed. Once quicktime is installed on your system, the other two components will automatically be installed if they are not already on your computer. The installation of Windows Media Player 6.0 or higher can be done instead of quicktime to allow the .mid files to work.

Q : Why do you use more components on your sound cards?

Soundcard FAQ and Sound Card Support - Auzentech, Inc. Sound...
More components produce better audio, if you know how to use them, and if they are of high quality. An analog signal, for example, will degrade the farther it travels along a circuit. We use additional components to enhance the quality all along the board. You can see this yourself. Compare the number of components on the X-Meridian alongside other sound cards based around the CMI-8788 chipset. Study the cards for a while, and you will begin to see why Auzentech cards sound better.
