We teach people with a variety of disabilities. The disabilities may include: Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Learning Disabilities, Autism, Brain Injury, Stroke, Amputee, Spinal Cord Injury, and Visual and/or Hearing Impaired.

People come to DORS with many types of disabilities, educational levels and circumstances. Some have had a disability since birth. These may include neurological problems that limit standing and walking; vision loss; learning limitations or hearing loss. Others have acquired a disability from illness or an accident. These may include people with brain injuries, spinal cord injuries or amputations. DORS also serves people who have been treated for mental illness.

Inquiring students should first review the FLCC Procedures for Services to Students with Disabilities. Printed copies of this fact sheet are also available in the Admissions Office. The fact sheet outlines the types of services available and the procedure that students should follow to gain access to reasonable accommodations.

We strive to make our online courses accessible to everyone. We specifically consider design features that make our courses accessible to individuals with disabilities, including those using assistive technology for computer access. When a student discloses that he or she has a disability, it is your responsibility to make a good faith effort to protect the student's right to privacy regarding his or her disability status. When dealing with disability issues: Maintain the student's right to privacy by not disclosing to others that the student has a disability; Remember that it is not appropriate to ask students what their disabilities are.

Students with disabilities must provide appropriate documentation to the College Board. Once the documentation has been validated, the student will receive testing accommodations. Should a student be unable to write without the use of a computer, a computer will be allowed during the essay portion of the SAT Writing category.

Parents with disabilities" include a broad spectrum of mothers and fathers of children of all ages including adult children. Some parents are blind, Deaf, have a physical disability, a psychiatric disability, or a developmental disability. Some disabilities are life-long, others are more recent. Disabilities can be stable, progressive or varying.

The common thread among all students majoring in entertainment management is their love to be around the entertainment business. There are some students who were once performers and no longer want to be on stage. Some have a love for sports and want to work in marketing or management of a professional or collegiate level sports team. Others want to put their organization and coordination skills to work and organize major events for venues and entertainment management companies.

The college does not provide transportation to or from campus. However, several local cities do provide accessible transportation to Cerritos College for their disabled residents. Each city has its own criteria and operating schedule. RTD and ACCESS also transport students to the campus. For further information call the City Hall where you live or contact us in the ACRCSD.

Priority registration for classes is held every semester, usually one day prior to the beginning of regular registration. This can be done in person on campus or through a touchtone phone. New students should contact DSP&S or the Counseling office for exact times and dates--advance arrangements are necessary. (Continuing DSP&S students are notified by mail.)

Students can meet with the Director, the Learning Specialist, or a Counselor to develop advocacy skills or to receive support and assistance in accessing college services and accommodations. Students whose disabilities may have a significant impact on their academic performance are encouraged to meet with the Director, Learning Specialist, or Counselor for academic advising.

The ATI requires us to have alternative format materials available at the same time they are available for non-disabled students. The alternate format conversion process is complex and time consuming. On the average, DAS needs 4-6 weeks to produce a text in alternate format. Even if DAS receives a book in electronic format from a publisher, it will likely need to be edited and converted to a format usable by a student. This is why timely adoption of text books is essential to the process.

Students with disabilities must take placement tests, but we may offer special testing accommodations if appropriate. If you need any special testing arrangements, please contact the Director for Disability Services, Monica Jackson, at (914) 674-7523 at least two weeks prior to your placement test appointment. You will be asked to provide documentation of your special needs to the Director for Disability Services before accommodations can be arranged.

The NAEP program has always endeavored to assess all students selected as a part of its sampling process. In all NAEP schools, accommodations will be provided as necessary for students with disabilities (SD) and/or English language learners (ELL). Inclusion in NAEP of an SD or ELL student is encouraged if that student (a) participated in the regular state academic assessment in the subject being tested, and (b) if that student can participate in NAEP with the accommodations NAEP allows.

People with disabilities have a range of abilities and are highly productive in many types of jobs. Depending on the person's training and/or educational background, persons with disabilities can be successful in both entry and professional level positions. Some of the occupations that clients of Disability Resources have been successful in include warehousing, retail, office/secretarial, shipping and receiving, bakery, pick and pack, landscaping and more!

The college Office of Student Support Services  strives to meet the individual needs of students with disabilities. The office works with faculty and staff at Carroll to ensure that reasonable accommodations are made to allow students an equitable opportunity in the classroom and around campus. Accommodations may vary depending on the nature of the disability, documentation provided, and academic requirements. Accommodations may include, but are not limited, to the following: extended-time testing, quiet testing environment, readers/scribes for exams, tape recording lectures, note takers, computers for essays/exams, electronic spell checkers, assistive technology.

Tutoring on the Central Campus is available to all MCCC students in the Learning Assistance Lab (LAL) located on the third floor of the Learning Resources Center in College Hall. Tutoring in math, English, and a variety of content area subjects is provided on a drop-in basis. Regular tutoring appointments for students with disabilities depend on available resources. On the West Campus, the LAL is in room 159 inside the Library.

A variety of assistive technologies is located in the Learning Assistive Lab, The Learning Resources Center, and the Counseling Center. For more information on these and other devices, contact the Director of Services for Students with Disabilities.

The SSD Office facilitates accommodations and services to students with disabilities which ensure equal access to university programs and activities. Some of the most frequently requested accommodations and services include: test accommodations, taped textbooks, note takers, library assistance, course-specific tutoring, and sign language interpreters. The program provides reasonable accommodations and services for qualified students with documented disabilities who are attending Auburn University, enrolled in distance learning classes, or participating in programs sponsored by Auburn University.

All labs accommodate wheelchairs. On the Leesburg campus, there is a computer with the JAWS program on it, and there is also an OPTELEC Clear View 300 machine available.

The Alternative Break program makes every effort to ensure that students with disabilities can participate successfully in Alternative Break programs. Please be aware that we cannot guarantee that facilities or support services will be available at each location abroad in the same range and quality as on the AU campus. We cannot alter architecture, transportation, or laws in other countries.

Our tutoring program is open to all University students providing small group (3-5 students) tutorials for many of our 100 and 200 level courses. Individual tutors for students with disabilities are not provided although the student may certainly recruit and hire his or her own tutor. These tutorials are study skills based and are not a recitation or reteaching of the classroom material. Currently, students are only assigned a tutor for one class each semester.

Before you apply to a school, check out their facilities for access to students with particular disabilities and consult with student services.
