Windows XP includes a technology called WPA (discussed above), which enforces a license Microsoft has been using for years (that is, you're supposed to buy one copy of Windows for each computer). However, there are ways in which you can minimize your costs. If you only need Home Edition, and you qualify for the upgrade version, buy two copies of that. None of the above software will be compatible with Windows NT. At this time there are no drivers available to make these software programs compatible with Windows NT. I install it on a new computer (or hard disk drive taken down to "bare metal") from the DOS prompt with a Windows 98 Startup floppy. Put a copy of smartdrv.exe on the Startup floppy. You should be able to find a copy on and existing Windows 9x/Me computer at C:\windows. It is on the CD's in D:\win98. Boot to the floppy and use fdisk to partition the drive. Format the C: drive. Do not install the system files.
