If you set up a MailHop Forward address to forward to a Gmail account, and then send a message to the MailHop Forward address from that same Gmail account, the message will never appear in your Gmail Inbox. Instead, you'll only have a single copy in your All Mail mailbox. While the Gmail FAQ refers specifically to messages sent to a "mailing list", from Gmail's perspective a MailHop Forward alias looks just like a mailing list and they treat the message in the same way.

If you prefer to receive messages sent to your Monash Webmail account via another account, you can set your Monash account to forward incoming emails to an alternative email address: Enter the email address or addresses that you wish to forward mail to into the Forwarding Addresses text box.

The default alias is created by entering a star character ("*"), without the quotes or parenthesis, in the Alias field of the Add New Alias form.
