The added weight to ship a large pot, plus various state quarantine restrictions make shipping potted plants expensive. Quarantine restrictions prevent the spread of pests and weeds that might live in the soil. The first thing to do with new bare root plants is to stick the roots in a bucket of water for up to an hour. If you do not plant them soon, repeat this everyday or so. Try not to soak above the crowns.
