When was the question on everyone's lips back then. far as I am aware late 2000, February 2001, June 2001 and the end of July 2001 were THE estimated release time. That changed again (it did change a few times) as it was supposed to be released over a year ago. The game was officially released in USA and Germany on the 21st of September 2001. On the 28th of September it was released in England and the rest of Europe.
