We are often asked this question from clients in the home furnishing industry as they often require to sublimate onto furniture with fabric that is part polyester and cotton. Generally speaking, the higher the percentage of polyester in the fabric the better the sublimation results. At minimum we recommend a blend of 60% polyester - or in other words the majority of the fabric should include polyester.

Premium films also endure extreme environments and severe stress conditions more favorably. Films with higher polyester content are more rigid and feel thicker than films with more adhesive content. Polypropylene film is softer than polyester, but still has excellent clarity.

The differences are subtle. On finer linen thread counts (35, 36, 40) silk floss is preferred. You use just one strand of silk floss in your needle, whereas you use two of cotton (silk has more body), so on finer linens stitches made with silk floss will look cleaner and tidier and less bulky. Also, silk is smoother and easier to work with than cotton, and the colors of silk floss tend to be subtler, with more translucence.

Alpha Cellulous paper is made from wood pulp that has been processed to remove everything but the cellulous. The process used to remove the lignins and other impurities creates industrial wastes. The final product is stable and acid free. Cotton paper is naturally acid and lignin free. It is 10 times stronger than pulp papers, and is environmentally friendly in both processing and as a renewable resource.
