Your substrate (part) which has chrome already on it will need to be media blasted to remove the top layer of chrome off. This will leave the copper and nickel coatings on the substrate (part). The coatings that are left on the substrate (part) are ok to be powder coat over, but we will need to pre-bake the part to make sure the coatings are stable. If the pre-bake cycle doesn’t blister the copper and nickel coatings we will then put the powder on.

No. There are many materials that simply would not survive the high temperatures involved in the powder coating process. Each part must be baked after it has been painted, which exposes it to temperatures in excess of 300 degrees. Wood, plastic, rubber and many other such materials would melt or burn away. Because of this, the part should be constructed with electrically conductive metal.

While it is possible to remove wet spray from parts prior to coating, the correct way to ensure quality is to ship us cleanly manufactured metal parts. However, it is sometimes possible to paint right over the old layer, but only if we can get an electrostatic charge through the paint and to the base metal itself. Each part poses different challenges. We cannot determine what work will be involved until we have seen the part and made a careful analysis.

We use both, as each has a distinctive advantage over the other, as well as certain inherent characteristics that make them ideal for different types of wheels. Many times the refinishing process will require both.

The powder coatings are applied using a specialized powder coating spray gun. This unique spray gun has an adjustable electrostatic corona charge of between 10,000 - 90,000 volts with a negative ion orientation. Yes. If we are coating over chrome, the chrome must be in good shape. If it is flaking off, we recommend having the chrome removed prior to delivering the parts to us. This will ensure a good base for a long lasting product.

Usually not, chrome plating is just that, plated on the surface, very quickly, the chrome would be buffed through and the underlying nickel and copper would be exposed.

Not in house, however, if you have polishing and plating, we would be more than happy to send the plating out for you. We can also prep for plating, usually by special request. If your part needs more attention to detail (nooks and crannies prepped perfect, or ‘especially’ flat surfaces) than the guys at the plating shop can give it, we would then do the pre-polish. This can be a little bit more cost on average, but it will be ‘super’ show quality.

EZorb Powder can be mixed with juice or water. If you use water there's a little taste. Most people use juice. There's no need to use a full glass of water or juice. A quarter of glass is enough. The only reason you use water or juice is to get the powder down easier.
