The ECE department offers two forms of student financial assistance: The research assistant (RA) and the teaching assistant (TA). The RA positions are under control of each individual faculty member. The ECE office does not keep any records on availability. You will need to query each individual faculty member to check on their availability of RA funding.

Answer: Faculty members often employ doctoral students as RA’s on their research projects, and students are strongly encouraged to apply for these positions as they provide excellent experience. These positions vary from year to year, depending on the grant money awarded to faculty members. Teaching assistants (TA’s) help professors by assisting with marking assignments and delivery of some course information. SLAIS does not have such positions at this time

The Graduate School classifies all Ph.D. students as Graduate Research Associates. It does not distinguish between students on scholarship and those holding research assistantships. There are no teaching assistantships available. Most of the Ph.D. programs require their Ph.D. students to assist in the medical school and/or M.S. graduate education programs as lab instructors or small group facilitators. All of the Ph.D. programs require extensive laboratory work to be performed by the Ph.D.

There is no application required for a TA or RA position. All applicants are considered for a TA or RA position. Additional funding questions may be answered at the financial support page.

Instructors are responsible for hiring their own research assistants, positions which MBA students are eligible for. MBA students are also eligible for teaching assistant positions for first year MBA core courses. These positions are only open to second year students and are filled at the beginning of the school year.

Many graduate students serve in one of these two positions for all or most of their graduate student career. These positions offer professional development, research opportunities and significant financial rewards. In addition to a monthly salary, these positions provide a full or partial fee waiver. the current time, we are able to offer most qualified graduate students a TA position during the first year of study.

Department Scholarships are awarded to students in their second and third years. Students apply for them Spring quarter. Opportunities for department scholarships are small in amount and number and so it is recommended to rely on scholarships and sources of funding outside the Department. The Department offers several Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant positions. The students for these positions apply Spring quarter and are selected by the Faculty.

During the online application process, you will be given the opportunity to indicate your interest in being considered for departmental funding by an RA or TA. No additional materials are required for consideration for an RA or TA. If you are interested in departmental funding through an RA or TA, you should submit your application by February 1.

Complete the Research Assistant Application form on the GSIS Student Affairs website. Attach a current resume and cover letter. The professors here come and review all the applications and then make their choices of students to interview.

Research titles are administered by the Office of the Vice President for Research. Most research positions meet the duties tests for exemption, but some part-time positions might not meet the minimum $23,660 per year salary threshold, and therefore must be treated as nonexempt positions that are eligible for overtime.

We are able to offer a limited number of research and assistant positions each semester. Application information is mailed to students as funds become available.

Yes, if your TA is entered into PeopleSoft as an instructor of record for the course (or section) he or she can enter and submit the final grades. You can also have your TA assigned as a "proxy" for a course and then he or she can enter and submit the grades.

To be hired as a TA or GSR, students must provide proof of eligibility for employment on campus. An international student must have taken and passed the TSE with a score of at least 50 in order to qualify for TA appointment. Conditions of your financial support award are included in the formal letter you received from the Department. Employment as a TA or GSR is not generally required when the student's financial support package includes a monthly stipend.

It is fairly easy to get an on-campus job. Definitely a lot easier than most other schools I know. And they pay relatively well. (Read: You can most probably support all your living expenses comfortably with an on-campus job.) RAs/TAs are pretty much out of the question before you show up here in person. Unless your performance and work in undergrad is stellar, which few people really can honestly claim to have.

If your registration fees are to be paid by your department, you may want to defer payment until the funding sources are available. (e.g., stipends, TA fellowships, etc.) Please note: If your graduate award does not include Health Insurance, you must pay it at the time of your payment plan enrollment. If you are paying your registration fees with your teaching assistant salary, you may set up a payment plan to correspond with receipt of your paychecks.

A15 The tuition remission surcharge applicable to the RA appointment will be 40% of the total. In this case the amount of $3,200/year will be charged against the RA funding source.

Psych Central is a great place to begin building experience in tutoring others, especially Psych 111 students. Students working there as teaching assistants earn credit in Psychology 492R. The center is re-staffed every semester or term. If you are interested, go to Psych Central and make an appointment with the Graduate Student Coordinator in order to discuss possible openings. Graduate students fill most paid Teaching Assistant positions, so there are limited undergraduate positions.

You will have to wait for quite some time to get your first cheque. If you are on a TA/RA, you will be paid on a monthly basis. So, you might expect your first significant payment in the first week of November (wages for October) because the quarter starts in the last week of September and you are unlikely to work for too many hours in September. If you are on a Fellowship, you will get your money when your department pays the fees for the Fall quarter.

RAs are assigned to a specific professor for the year and assist him or her with their research programs. This could include: helping design research studies, collecting literature for an article, data entry and analysis, and running sessions of an experiment. TAs are assigned to a specific professor and assist him or her in their teaching duties for a particular class.

Research Assistantships and internships are publicized via the weekly "Events and Opportunities" email that is sent to Government concentrators, and on the bulletin board in the Undergraduate Program Office. The OCSand Student Employment Office (SEO) also publicize these opportunities.

Work-study positions are not centralized and each position has its own deadline. For additional information about available work study positions, please see the DU Graduate Student Employment webpage.

This type of experience is useful if you want to apply for an assistantship position in the business school. However, it cannot substitute for industrial work experience in your MBA application. We encourage all applicants to make personal visits to the university and the Center so they can visit with students and staff, view the facilities, etc. Alumni may in certain cases be available during such visits, but we can always arrange for email contacts between applicants and alumni.

On campus research or teaching assistantships are available at ISNM but there are only very few positions. Assistantships are assigned on a semester basis and can be continued but are not guaranteed to do so. Assistantship openings are posted toward the end of lecture periods of each semester (February, July) via e-mail to all ISNM students and prospective students who have passed the admissions process. These postings include information on how to apply for assistantships.
