WorldMaker's scenery editing capabilities were implemented on top of the version 7 X-Plane scenery engine. When we totally rewrote the engine for version 8, we had to remove WorldMaker's scenery editing capabilities. To edit X-Plane 7 scenery, use WorldMaker from X-Plane 7.63 (available for free download). You can use WorldMaker 8 to edit airport and nav data. The new scenery editor will be a separate program from WorldMaker.

Once you're tried the photographic scenery, you'll probably find you're not missing the autogen scenery as much as you thought, if at all. However, if you really can't live without autogen scenery, then the photographic scenery may not be for you. The best advice is to find a friend with the photographic scenery and try it - you may be surprised. Hopefully in time, autogen specifically designed for the photographic scenery, will become available, so you'll get the best of both worlds.

That is the USGS Urban Area Imagery. USGS Urban is about .25m/pixel and only covers certain areas in the United States. These are the color images you may have seen. You can generally see cars with this layer. Note that it is only available for select cities, if you are not looking at the right place the images will be white. Yes. While the new default scenery is not photorealistic (it is based on classes of land, road networks, and individually placed objects for buildings), it is possible to use aerial or satelite photographs to make version 8 scenery.

In some cases, trees must be removed before a pre-built coaster may be built in that area (or you may build a coaster over the trees by holding SHIFT while moving the mouse UP to raise the coaster above the foliage). Also check the gradient of the land, if it is too steep people won't be able to walk up or down paths. In addition, not all the land allows for construction - some of the land may only have tracks or footbridges built over it.

X-Plane 8 now supports ENV taxiway lines, as of version 815; upgrade to the latest X-Plane 8 to see them. However, our future plan is to have taxiway lines in the apt.dat file, not ENV files.

We will release the scenery tools after the global scenery is done and as soon as the user interface is refined enough for general use. Photo-Realistic scenery is scenery based primarily on high resolution aerial or satelite photographs. Essentially you are flying over a picture of what the area looks like in real life. Probably the greatest strength of photorealistic scenery is that while in flight, it looks almost exactly like what you see out the window of a real aircraft.

Landclass scenery is scenery based on catagories of land. The world is broken down into areas with catagories such as forests, cities, farms, etc. and then the terrain is textured based on these catagories. Landclass scenery can cover a large area with only a few image files (one for each land class), but a large area of a single land class can look repetitive (for example an area of repeating farms). More textures can be used to hide the repetitions.

Over the last ten years I have always kept up-to-date on the state of Genealogy programming and the programs available. If you don't have access to a shell/command line (usually the case with third party hosting services) then you may find you can use Martin Geisler's phpShell software to achieve the desired result (unless SAFE MODE is not set for php). The text was already outlined to vector paths in the PDF original. This means that it was no longer composed of characters but was converted into graphics that look like text by the source application. There is nothing that pdf2cad can do about this ? it can only reproduce the vectorized text in the DXF output. If the text is still "live" in the PDF file, pdf2cad can in most cases preserve it as searchable/editable text in the DXF file.

Possibly not. These previews represent various tests that the art team has done to evaluate various global scenery generation and texturing techniques. But the final product may not look as good. We need to keep the global scenery simple so that it will fit on a few DVDs. We also need to limit the number and size of the textures we use and the number of triangles so that all computers can run X-Plane 8 with global scenery.

No; there will be roughly three levels of quality in the scenery. The continental US is most detailed due to SRTM data and detailed road maps. The entire world from 54 degrees south to 60 degrees north is somewhat detailed, thanks to SRTM data, but the roads are not as detailed. Parts of the world not covered by the SRTM data (where the SRTM data is corrupted) will be very inaccurate due to a lack of high quality elevation data and high quality vectors.

Yes. The global scenery features significant technology improvements over the original US DSFs. So we will provide new US DSFs that feature some of the improvements.

X-Plane 7 featured rivers as textured line segments; the X-Plane 8 rendering engine draws all water, no matter how narrow, as full polygonal waterbodies. The upside of this decision is that a seaplane can correctly land on anything that looks wet in X-Plane 8. The downside is that we cannot draw X-Plane 7 vector rivers in X-Plane 8.

There's one scenery picture in each level. In the first level, near the beginning, you'll pass an object that looks like a hut. Then you'll see a bunch of jagged rocks. That's the first scenery picture. If you can't see it, imagine a Kingler. Now take a look at it. The second scenery pic is probably the hardest.

Download Filmerit and run it. Press the question mark button (or just press F1) -> uncheck "Read-Only" -> a window pops up -> press Allow -> press Close. Now that we're back to the main window of the program, press the 3rd button from the left (or just press Ctrl+E) -> there should be a list of errors there -> press the first button from the left (or just press CTRL+W) to get back the full list of filters -> now press F12 to repair those errors.

The original BANKEDIT program did not contain all of the samples. Because of this a revised menu system was created. BANKEDIT.MNU. Simply overwrite the existing version on your system with this file (you may want to make a backup first as this file is not endorsed by Team17). That hasn't helped! Open Windows is not being maintained so it doesn't handle Java well. Most of the problems we have seen are cosmetic, but if you find you cannot work around a problem, try CDE instead. The most confusing one is that when you first open a proposal you cannot edit any field until you touch a scroll bar. Workaround: This problem appears sporatically, but is more common when you are running APT remotely. It is benign and usually fixed by opening and closing folders in the tree. (54274)
