Your hospital experience should happen in the way that you decide that you want it to happen. If you choose to see your baby after he/she is born, you can do that. You can choose to hold your baby, feed your baby, and change your baby. You may also choose to have the adoptive family share in these experiences so they can begin bonding with the baby.

Many families will want to record the birth of a new baby by taking pictures or using a video camera. This is usually allowed, but please make sure your healthcare provider and nurses give permission before photographing particular people or procedures. Within the operating room, we also ask that you get permission from the anesthesiologist and your healthcare provider before taking pictures.

One of the most frequently asked questions is, "Will my baby have diabetes?" Almost universally the answer is no. One of the advantages of the birth control pill is that it's quickly reversible. After you stop taking the pill, you may have only a two-week delay before you ovulate again. Your midwife continues to look after both you and your baby after the birth until your little one is 6 weeks old. At this time your family doctor or naturopath resumes your care and your babies. If your baby needs extra care then a pediatrician will look after him or her. Your midwife will see you very frequently in the first week after your birth to help you with breastfeeding and to ensure that both you and the baby are healthy and happy.
