It usually comes bundled as a part of larger CD / DVD recording software packages and makes your CD or DVD drive act as a standard, transparently write-enabled drive. Packet writing software uses UDF-formatted CD and DVD discs, and allows GRBackPro to write to your CD / DVD drive by treating it like a hard disk or a floppy diskette, using the regular drive letter.

A file opened for write in exclusive mode, instead, (as for example the Outlook and the database files) causes an error if you do not skip it. You must skip these files or schedule your backup when these files are closed (over night for example). The virtual memory or swap files are automatically skipped by GRBackPro.

Make sure that you have the latest updates for your operating system from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. Check to see that your DVD burner is set as Master on your Secondary IDE Channel, not as Slave. This means that the jumpers on the back of the drive must be set as master, and also that the drive must be on the end of the IDE cable. Make sure your drive's properties has DMA turned off. Go to Windows Help and type DMA in the search box for more information.

I've never heard of CD-RW drive that can read DVD discs...which doesn't necessarily mean there isn't one. I would do an internet search of the CD drive model you have to see what it can, in fact, read. I would assume, however, that no CD drive will read DVDs.

To conclusively know whether or not your drive (and the firmware version) is supported, you can use the following methods: Under OS X 10.2.x: Use the Apple System Profiler application (likely located in your "/Applications/Utilities" folder) and look under the "Devices and Volumes" tab for your optical drive. Click the arrow next to your drive name to reveal the full information list for that device, and verify that the "Disc Burning" entry reads "Fully Supported". Under OS X 10.3.

The most common reason for this is related to a user profile problem. In the first instance try logging into the machine using another user ID. If then the CD/DVD drive is visible in My Computer then there is a problem with the user's profile and they should contact ISS Registration (ext 8179) to have their profile checked.
