If you don't have a digital camera, bring along ASA 200 (or 400) film; a 80-200 mm zoom lens is helpful. Set your shutter speed for 1/500th of a second to freeze the action and minimize the effect of the boat's movement. Hold the camera steady; don't try to follow the motion of the whale. Have a video camera? Avoid excessive zooming and never film into direct sunlight.

Most Dogme95 films are shot on consumer DV cameras. Which one that takes the price as the best, depends heavily on which photographer you ask. So, ask your photographer which model he prefers and it will no doubt work perfectly. The most common problems we have encountered here at the secretariat are difficulties choosing the format and calibrating the camera. Your photographer has to remember that the DV film has to be transferred to 35mm Academy, which is the almost square, old film format 1.

Many manufacturers offer proprietary lithium ion battery systems with their cameras. These are very sophisticated batteries with very long life. Sony's Infolithium battery system is perhaps the best example of this technology. In addition to offering very long life, this system can give an accurate measurement of the amount of operating time left on a charge. The negative side of lithium ion battery systems is that these proprietary systems tend to be very expensive.

The features that make a good camera for product photography are not necessarily the features that are important for other types of photography like portraits or everyday family photos. It really depends on what window type scenario verses the needs you have. They all do a great job for specific functions. For most of my photos, I used a 35mm point-and-shoot (P&S) zoom camera. I've tried several different models from Minolta, Canon, and Samsung, and all of them were reasonably good. The best thing about a P&S camera is its small size. The worst thing about a P&S is its slow lens - it takes a relatively long time to gather a certain amount of light onto the film. This means you have to use fast film, especially if you intend to use the zoom.

Our images are printed on archival photographic paper by the respected Frontier Printer. You won't be able to tell the difference between a digital print and a regular print. The photographs last just as long as normal prints because the paper is exposed to light, processed, and washed just like a normal print from a film camera. We do not print our images on a inkjet printer, they are professionally printed by a digital lab.

We have tested our films on many different 620 cameras with great success. The only cameras we have found to be questionable are cheaper, drugstore-style cameras. The problem with these type is that the gears that wind the take-up spool are improperly sized. However, even these cameras WILL work so long as a METAL take-up spool is used. We suggest purchasing only one roll on your first order to test out your camera.
