Nonmatriculated (NM) students may register via Non-Degree Enrollment during autumn, winter and spring quarters. During summer quarter, Nonmatriculated (NM) students should register via the Summer Quarter Web site. Graduate Nonmatriculated (GNM) students may register via Non-Degree Enrollment anytime (autumn, winter, spring and summer quarters).

Non-Degree Enrollment at the University of Washington in Seattle allows anyone to register for a UW course and earn University of Washington course credits without formal admission to the UW. However, since preference is given to matriculated students (students formally admitted to the university), Non-Degree Enrollment is on a standby, space-available basis and at the discretion of the department.

Most courses found on the University of Washington Time Schedule are eligible for Non-Degree Enrollment. Enrollment is at the discretion of the department and requires departmental approval. To find out if a specific course is open for Non-Degree Enrollment, you will need to check with the academic department offering the class. For winter, spring and summer quarters, you may register beginning at the start of Registration Period I. For autumn quarter, registrations are accepted beginning the first Monday in August. Because Non-Degree registration is on a space-available basis and late fees may apply, students are encouraged to submit their registration materials and payment at the earliest possible date. While enrollment in classes through Non-Degree Enrollment does not constitute admission to the University of Washington, the credits earned may be applied toward a degree should you be admitted to the University at a later date. Non-degree/Special - Qualified persons who are not interested in a degree program but who wish only to take certain courses may be permitted to register as special students, provided facilities are available. Should a special student decide to apply for a degree program later, no more than 15 points of graduate engineering courses may be counted toward the M.S. degree.

No, we have a rolling admissions process. We accept new students for the fall, winter, and spring quarters. Application materials must be received by the following application deadlines: February 1 for Spring Quarter, August 15 for Fall Quarter, and November 1 for Winter Quarter.

Transfer students must first send an unofficial copy of their transcripts to the engineering advising staff. This is in addition to the official transcript you had your college/s send to the UCSC Admissions Office. The staff will evaluate what credit you will get toward the major and contact you about what classes you should be taking in your first quarter on campus. You cannot enroll in any courses for the major on campus until this has been done.

Joint degree students can apply for assistantships through the Andrew Young School. Graduate Research Assistants (GRAs) typically work around 8 hours per week for a faculty member or research center in the school and must be enrolled at least nine hours per semester. These assistantships are competitive and awarded to a small percentage of the applicant pool. The priority application deadline for assistantships that begin in the fall semester is February 15th.

Degrees will be ready for disbursal four weeks after graduation. Foreign students may wish to leave a mailing address along with the receipt of payment for all courier costs with the office. All graduates must obtain the necessary signatures on the clearance form before receiving the degree/diploma/certificate. Please remember to take the degree case given to you at the Commencement Exercise to ensure adequate protection for this document.
