How much tea, coffee and soft drinks can I have?

Closer Diets - FAQs
You can have as much tea and coffee as you like, as long as you don't reach for the sugar bowl and keep within a 200ml milk allowance. Since diet soft drinks have no calories, it is fine to have up to 2 cans a day. We wouldn't recommend more than this though, as research suggests that some artificial sweeteners can encourage weight gain. It's not quite understood why, but we advise you to reduce the amount of sweetener you consume, as they seem to make you hold on to your sweet tooth.

Can I drink coffee and soft drinks for my fluid requirements?

Bariatric Surgery by Julie Ellner, M.D., Other FAQ's
It is not recommended to drink soda, tea or coffee, as they dehydrate your body by acting as a diuretic and they stimulate your appetite. Also, avoid carbonated beverages during the first six months or so after your surgery. Carbonation does not stretch out your stomach, but it can cause gas that may be painful. Avoid the use of straws. With a straw, you can drink large amounts of fluid without realizing it and overfill your stomach pouch.

I don't want to give up soft drinks. Can I drink diet drinks?

No Weight Gain Cookbooks / Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
If diet drinks really helped, America would be full of slim people. Artificial sweeteners ingested on a regular basis are not good for you and effect the nervous system. They can cause irritable feelings, make a person more prone to stress, and promote fatigue. The better option is to have a regular soft drink, perhaps once a week, look forward to it and enjoy it. The rest of the time, fill up on such drinks as natural fruit juices.

Catholic FAQs: Morality
Every man is bound to love himself, and this both with respect to his body and to his soul, and both with a natural love and with a supernatural love, that we call charity. The natural love is written into the natural law, that makes a man long for the preservation of bodily life and happiness. As St. Thomas Aquinas points out (ST, IIa IIae, Q. 25, A. 4) this is the basis and root of all natural friendship, according to which we love our friends as ourselves.

We recommend drinking a minimum of 64 oz (8 glasses) of water per day. This can be in the form of regular water, flavored water (like propel, fruit 2 O), decaffeinated diet soda, any of the diet fruit juices (like diet V8) and crystal light. The water helps to keep you hydrated and helps to "flush" everything out of your system.
