Speaker compatibility with tube amps is a function of load impedance, sensitivity, room size and listening levels. A narrow phase angle impedance that is contained within a small window [say 8-ohm nominal, no lower than 6 and no higher than 10] is best. Impedances higher than 8-ohm are useful for micro-power SETs and OTLs. Sensitivities of 90dB or higher work with most low-power SETs, but if the impedance curve (as it is with all Soliloquy models) remains truly benign, even 88dB might do.

Technically speaking, nothing! Sonically speaking, everything! In the beginning, there were only tubes... and inside your amp you would find them glowing as they amplify your signal. Eventually they a found "better" way of making amps and tubes were replaced by things like operational amplifiers and transistors. From that point on, amps could be made smaller and cheaper, but not necessarily better. Tube amps sound warmer, smoother, and more musical for any style of music.

You will need to connect the – terminals of the amplifiers together. Then on the master amp the open + is your positive and on the slave amp the open + is your -. The master is the first amp you are connecting or your A amp. Yes, but we don't recommend it. The SM-2A3 has been "voiced" in concert with micro power tube amps. Its frequency response curve is an acoustical inverse of traditional micro power SETs. When powered by such an amplifier, the result is a composite flat frequency response. However, amplifiers with linear frequency response [all solid state and most high-power tube] will improperly interface with the SM-2A3 response to create a bright, forward treble and an elevated midbass.

Physically the speakers will fit in, but the general answer to the question is no - especially for the front speakers. The amplifiers are different between the different years. For example, the two biggest amplifiers in the 89 - 90's front speakers are 1000 uf, while in the 91 = 94's the number is 820 uf. The front speakers from the 89 - 90 Bose will not work in the 91 - 94 Bose units. You can force the connector in, but there likely won't be any sound. The prongs do not line up perfectly.

Impedance is the load value that your speakers present to your power source — the amount of resistance they provide to the current flowing from your amplifier. While it's convenient to refer to a speaker's impedance as being a fixed value (say, 4 ohms) over a speaker's entire frequency range, the impedance typically varies with the frequency of the input signal. So when we say a speaker is a 4-ohm speaker, think of this rating as a useful approximation.

Generally speaking, for the small tubes, if you notice an unacceptable increase in background noise ("hiss") then the tube who is responsible for making the gain in the circuit probably needs to be replaced. The tube(s) making the gain will usually be shorter than the output tube. Common types we use for gain in most of our circuits will be 12AT7, 6201, 12AU7, 5814, 12AX7, 5751, or 6072.

If you rent out or use your inflatables, you know how frustrating it is when a "breaker trips", and you must either explain to client on phone what to do or make another trip back to the client to reset the breaker. Yes, you can do this mod to any tube amp, regardless of the type of rectifier. You need to add a 1N4007 diode in series with the V+ line coming off the second filter cap, feeding the splitter and preamp. The cathode (BAR) should face the preamp circuitry, and the anode is connected to the junction of the choke output and second filter cap. When the output tubes pull current from the main supply, the power supply sags.

Usually a tube whose glass has been broken or cracked usually will have a white powdery like substance inside it where all that silvery stuff used to be. No, it is not cocaine and we didn't put it there.. I haven't seen it happen. Usually the glass will just crack at the base of the tube if it is going to physically break due to a sudden change in temperature and "all the vacuum will leak out".
