The usual mathematics sequence at the advanced high school, and beginning college level, takes students through courses designed for the pursuit of science and engineering, leading to topics that are motivated almost entirely by the subject's applicability to "real-world" problems. While SUMaC recognizes applicability as an added bonus in most areas of pure mathematics, our topics are selected independently of concern for these applications.

Yes. Course work taken while attending Field Kindley or Caney High School, for example, is posted to your CCC transcript at the close of the semester that the course is completed. You will need to contact the college where the course work was completed and request that they forward an official copy of your transcript to the CCC registrar.

College courses taken while in high school are typically accepted if at least a C- grade is received. You must request that an official transcript from the College granting the credit be sent to the Admissions Office.

This is an excellent way to get a quick start toward completing some of your core curriculum courses and Collin has a special admission process in place for high school and home schooled students. Collin offers special admission to high school students who have advanced abilities and request early admissions consideration, students under 18 years of age without a high school diploma or the equivalent and home schooled students under the age of 18.

Take as much math and science as possible. In particular, take calculus and physics in preparation for the freshman curriculum. If you take AP Calculus and Physics classes and score a 3 or better on your examination, you may be eligible to move into more advanced calculus and physics classes your first year.

Many students who engaged in binge drinking in high school continue this behavior when they get to college. Very few high school binge drinkers stop binge drinking in college. However, many students who did not binge drink in high school begin binge drinking in college. Some aspects of the college environment may promote binge drinking. Colleges should consider action to help prevent those students who did not binge drink in high school from taking up this behavior in college.

Yes. Your application to the visiting student program will be evaluated based on your high school record. Please remember that as a visiting student you will not be working toward a degree at Johns Hopkins, although you may transfer the credits you earn to another institution.

Any and all courses offered as part of a Marketing Education program require a Marketing Education teaching certificate. Other courses, such as Business Technology, Agriculture, Industrial Education programs, and occupational Family and Consumer Science courses also require the appropriate career educational teaching certificate. You can check the Core Data Manual on the DESE website to see which courses require which teaching certificate.
