Weber, TEC, Thermos, Charbroil, Broil King, Broilmaster and Fire Magic LP gas bar-b-ques do not include an LP tank. We will be happy to sell you a new tank with any bar-b-que that does not include one or just to have as a spare.

OPD stands for Overfill Prevention Device. As of April 1, 2002, no LP gas cylinder can be filled unless it is equipped with an (OPD). You can identify an OPD tank by looking at the valve handles, all the new ones are shaped like a triangle. So, as of April 1, 2002, no new valve, no fill. I still see a lot of these old valves floating around. Don't confuse the threads on the tank (old style vs. new style) valve with OPD. The OPD device is INSIDE the tank.

I do believe in having a second tank around. During summer months I keep a full one in the garage to swap out when the one on the pop-up gets low. Gas grills have tanks of compressed Propane. Propane is one of a few flammable gasses that is heavier than air and in the event of a leak, the gas will accumulate in low areas. A Propane tank which is leaking or inadvertently left on could accumulate to explosive levels in the apartment below you, and could be ignited by a pilot on a stove or anything that creates a spark. Therefore it is the policy of the Quincy Fire Department not to allow Propane gas grills on balconies above the first floor.

Sunshine Gas Grills are available in two different versions. The "LP" version comes with the required hose and regulator and properly sized orifices (the little gas jets) for LP gas. The "natural gas" version does not include a hose and regulator (they aren't required) and includes orifices sized for natural gas. If you already have a LP version and want to convert it for use with natural gas (or vice-versa), replacement natural gas orifices are available from your dealer at a cost of $19.

The fitting on the FlameSaver Tank valve is the standard Type-1 connection, which is commonly found on gas grills. The quick-connect style fitting (Type-2 connection) found on a limited number of grill models will not work with this tank.

On the top of the LP Gas tank, stamped in the metal will be the Tare (EMPTY ) Weight, it will be written something like "TW = 18" If your weight is 23 pounds it is easy to figure, (23 - 18 = 5) you know you have 5 pounds of LP, or 1/4 tank.

Yes, to convert from natural gas, NG, to LP, you must use vermiculite rather than sand and add an LP safety pilot. If you currently have an NG safety pilot, you need to change the orifice in the thermocouple and exchange the sand for vermiculite. We recommend contacting your local Hearth Technologies dealer to do the conversion for you. To change from LP to NG, you must change the pan orifice.

Should I just exchange my empty tank for a full one (WalMart, K-Mart) or would it be better to have my tank filled by a gas company that specializes in gas.

This is a disputed issue. I have seen./heard opinions on both side of the fence. With that said, I don't do it! I feel the three-way (gas/110v electric/12v electric) refrigerators used on most pop-ups aren't designed to be used on propane while towing. Most manufacturers recommend towing these on the 12 volt setting. Two-way (gas/110v electric) refrigerators are a totally different. By design, they are meant to be used on propane while towing.

Most Rv refrigerators have a button you push down when starting the refrigerator (lighting the pilot flame) on LP Gas. After the pilot ignites you need to keep holding the button down. They can burn one or the other, but not both. You need to be sure the gas hearth applicance you have is set up for the type of gas fuel you intend to burn. Conversion kits are available which will allow a unit to be changed to match the proper fuel type.
