Frequently Asked Questions

My dog has health issues, can he/she still come?

Frequently Asked Questions.
This depends on the health issues. There are certain illnesses that don't mix well in a social environment. We can not accept Epileptic dogs -- if they have a seizure, other dogs can attack them. State law mandates that our Camp Counselors cannot give your dog injections; therefore we cannot accept diabetic dogs that require injections. Nor can we accept dogs with communicable diseases or parasites.

ARE THERE ANY SPECIAL ISSUES THAT SHOULD BE KNOWN CONCERNING THE HEALTH OF THIS BREED?

Frequently Asked Questions about the Anatolian Shepherd Dog ...
As this is a breed close to its working origins, and most breeders prefer to out cross different lines to make the best use of the available gene pool, the breed seems to have few serious health problems. Anatolians can be sensitive to anesthesia, and this may be of concern if some veterinary procedures are performed. However, modern anesthetics tend to cause fewer reactions if they are used judiciously and "to effect", rather than prescribed simply by weight of the dog.

What health issues should I be aware of?

Chinchilla Frequent Questions
Chins have very sensitive digestive systems that is why it is highly recommended to feed them a good consistent diet of chinchilla food rather than guinea pig and other animal feed. They are also susceptible to Giardia. (this is found in some water supplies). Chins do not tolerate the heat well so it is best to keep them housed indoors and at temps below 80 degrees. If your chin is suffering from diarrhea it is best to see a vet immediately to rule out giardia, etc.

Why is it so hard to get medical coverage for mental health issues?

Frequently Asked Questions - Mental Health Board of San Fran...
There are several factors that make acquiring medical coverage for mental illness difficult. First, insurance companies often restrict benefits available to individuals with mental illness by placing greater limits on their use (i.e. by restricting the annual amount of inpatient and outpatient services covered) or by imposing greater cost sharing than for other medical needs. Second, many insurance companies refuse to cover illnesses or conditions they believe to be preexisting.

All are evaluated by a veterinarian, receive any necessary preventive care (including having their immunizations brought up to date) and all are spayed or neutered before they are placed in a new home. If any minor, treatable problems are identified, the dog receives whatever care is necessary. Occasionally, a dog suffering from a chronic disease will come into our care.
