Does window films cause seal failure when applied to Insulated Glass (IG) Units?
Window Tinting Services for the Los Angeles AreaNo, window films do not cause seal failure. All of our Huper Optik and Panorama films are IG unit safe. When recommended films are applied to the inside pane of an (IG) unit, there will be some absorption (except with clear safety films) of the sun's energy, which will increase the temperature of the glass pane. Some of this heat will transmit to the airspace, slightly raising the airspace temperature.

North East Tint Co. | Frequently Asked Questions |The answer is yes and no. It depends on factors such as age of the glass unit in question, the condition of the glass (visibly chipped, cracked or damaged), the compass orientation of the glass and the window film applied. Thermal stress is the only factor in glass breakage concerning the use of window films. There is a heat absorption ratio that is used to determine the type of glass that you have and the correct film to be applied to its inner surface.

U.S. Inspect: Professional Home Inspection - House Facts, WE...insulated glass seal is a window made up of two or more layers of glass held together in a track or frame. A gasketed channel separates the two pieces of glass, and the space between the panes is filled with a moisture-free, inert gas such as nitrogen. Related QuestionsAnswers for your questions. With double-glazed windows the sealed air space between the panes of glass has a big effect on energy performance. A very thin air space does not insulate as well as a thicker air space because of the conductivity through that small space. If the air space is too wide, however, convection within the glazing will occur and degrade the insulative qualities. The material that separates the two panes of glass in an insulated glass unit is called the spacer.Related Questions

MR. WINDOW - FAQS:::Whenever you have water spots or dirt in between your glass panes and not on the panes’ surface, you have a failed seal. The easiest way to tell is if you cannot clean off the spots from the inside or outside. A seal failure occurs when the glass has pulled away from its spacer, or the adhesive has loosened. All that is needed for a seal failure to occur is a gap the size of pinhole. Then air and moisture can get into the chamber between the two panes of glass.
Related QuestionsFrequently Asked QuestionsSeal failure occurs when the sealant between the two lites of glass breaks, subjecting the airspace to the surrounding environment.
