All batteries have to vent gases that build up within a battery. Some batteries still use mechanical vents for this instead of a porous plastic flame arrestor. Mechanical vents do not eliminate the possibility of having a direct path for a spark or flame to enter a battery allowing a possible explosion.

The DryEar is equipped with a rechargeable lithium ion battery similar to those found in cell phones. This battery will last for years with regular use. A full charge of a completely dead battery will require 5 hours of recharging. The systems were designed for standard 12V batteries. The battery base accept a size Group 24. Standard Automotive or Marine batteries will work.
