We prefer that your hair be completely dry and not freshly washed. Skipping a day of shampooing increases the hair’s porosity therefore making it easier to set and style. Hair in this condition holds longer in an up-do also.

There are two forms of age-related macular degeneration (AMD): dry and wet. It is possible for a person to suffer from both forms and AMD can affect one or both eyes. The rate at which the disease progresses varies greatly. Dry AMD may advance and cause loss of vision without turning into the wet form of the disease. However, it is also possible for early-stage dry AMD to suddenly change into the wet form of the disease.

About 85 - 90% of ARMD cases are the dry, or atrophic, form, in which yellowish spots of fatty deposits called drusen appear on the macula. The rest of ARMD cases are the wet form, so called because of leakage into the retina from newly forming blood vessels in the choroid, a part of the eye behind the retina. Normally, blood vessels in the choroid bring nutrients to, and carry waste products away from, the retina.

Generally speaking nature has provided each with natural secretions of oil designed to lubricate the scalp and hair. However, textured, relaxed or color treated hair has a tendency toward dryness. In pursuit of control, textured is often relaxed or straightened with hand held blow dyers or styled using hooded dryers, followed by other thermal styling implements. The result is dry and brittle hair.

The course of development for macular degeneration is different in each person. Some people have only the dry form for decades and never develop the wet form. However, if you have the dry form, your risk of progressing to wet AMD is higher and increases each year. If you have AMD in one eye, your risk is of getting AMD in the other eye is also higher. This is why it is so important to use the Amsler Grid daily to check for any changes that may occur.
