KDE offers a set of tools that allow us to make progress relatively quickly. The QT library on which it is based is one of the very best toolkits currently available. For now, RKWard is available only for Linux. We are very much aware that a Windows version would be a good thing. But as we rely on KDE, we have to wait for it to be ported to Windows, which should be done by the beginning of 2007. Until then, RKWard is a Linux-only app. >>

Just because your code runs on UNIX does not mean that it will run unmodified on Windows. In our experience, your code may really have a latent bug (or non-portable code) which simply does not manifest on UNIX. To debug such situations: Set the "stop always" state for the Access Violation exception in the Debug/Exceptions menu. On a segmentation violation, a pop-up dialog box will let you launch the debugger at the location of the fault.

I think, that kde is a great desktop and has the oppertunity to be a big player in gui apps and desktop area. Especially because of the famous qt library, which is designed very platform independed and already ported to many operation systems, porting kde application to other unix based operation systems isn't very much work. The one currently left operation system is windows. Windows is the standard os in many companies.

Since RKWard 0.3.5, 95% of the time you will not need to pass any options to ./configure. If you're trying to compile an older version of rkward, or you run into troubles during compilation, you may need to specify these options: You can determine your kde-directory by looking for some K-Application you know you have installed by typing "which kedit" in a console and strip the final /bin of the path (e.g. if which kedit returns /usr/bin/kedit , use /usr ).

Probably the first place you should look for more GNU tools is at Cygwin toolset. gEDA will most likely never come a pure GNOME/KDE application. The developers decided a long time ago that having too many dependancies on external libraries is not a good idea. Especially since gEDA is trying to achieve cross Unix platform portability. This philosophy does not exclude gEDA having support for GNOME/KDE (feel free to contribute code to achieve this), but this support will be a compile (./configure) time option. All file formats with gEDA must be pure ASCII.

Yes, since the aRts sound server KDE uses is running, it is using the sound device. If it is idle for 60 seconds, it will release it automatically (auto-suspend). In previous versions aRts didn't suspend when using full duplex. Upgrade to a newer version or turn off full duplex and it will suspend. Turning it off is a good idea anyway if you only use aRts for playing things.

In most cases they don't provide support for Windows copies of games. Loki did however provide support for Unreal Tournament on Linux, although only Windows CDs are available for purchase.
