Currently we do not permit people to create or add custom fish for Marine Aquarium. There are many reasons, but the most important is that while we trust an artisan would be motivated, and even capable of creating a truly wonderful masterpiece, there are others that might not, and a version were to get out that was less than the highest quality, it might reflect poorly on us. If you are interesting in creating fish or wildlife for our company, we are always seeking talented artist.

Yes, scientific research has shown in many experiments, that the fish stock inside a closed area recovers (only where these were fished before). Fish become more numerous and bigger. It benefits particularly the large predators. Most studies report an increase of about 2-3 times to what is found outside. However, this affects only the exploited species. The thousands of other species remain unaffected, except that they may be more likely to be eaten by the larger predators.

In 2004, scientists completed a study on the permanent de-facto marine reserve around the Cape Canaveral rocket launch site. They tagged fish inside and outside the reserve and followed their movements. To everyone's surprise, fish inside stayed inside but those outside migrated into the reserve, never to leave. Inside the reserve, the tagged fish were lost, presumably due to predation. The scientists concluded that the marine reserve acted as a sink (like a bottomless pit) to fish.

Fish cannot read maps. They do not know where a safe area begins or ends. The only clue they have is that it is safe where a lot of fish are found (humans do so too). Helping safety in numbers, is one reason why feeding the fish inside a protected area is not a bad idea. There exists a vast difference between migratory and resident species. Migratory species move in and out frequently. Resident species invariably maintain a territory, which they defend against competitors.

A real saltwater aquarium of this size could not support more fish, and it also gets visually crowded. The second reason is the graphics overhead for more fish slows the system down too much. We know that many people have very powerful graphics cards, which are producing 100 frames per second, but most do not, and we want the Aquarium to be a satisfying experience for the largest possible audience.

This is only a guide; it will depend on what type of fish & filter the aquarium has and how often it is maintained.

It is thought that new recruits drop out of the plankton without preference for where (randomly). Assuming this is true, a marine reserve will receive as many newcomers as outside, per area. But inside the reserve there are more and larger predators (which has been demonstrated), thus their survival chance is less than outside. Marine reserves do not produce more recruits.

Like an oasis in the desert, all forms of coral life are quickly attracted to Biorock reefs. Many forms of reef life have been observed to be attracted to the structures, and none repelled. However it is the organisms with limestone skeletons, such as corals, clams, oysters, barnacles, tube worms and sand-producing algae that are especially benefited, allowing them to outgrow weedy algae that often smothers and kills corals in polluted waters.

Find and sterilize enough containers to hold all of the aquarium and filtration water (Preferably plastic based.) Take out decorative rock, wood, or coral and place in a container (this is not the gravel or crushed coral) Put water back into tank. Treat with Stress Coat, or similar water conditioner. Float fish, or begin to acclimate. Release in 20 min.

Light is a highly debated subject among aquarists. Many books use wattage as a simple way to judge lighting. Wattage, by itself, per gallon, is a very poor way to judge lighting. For instance, a 20W 10,000K fluorescent bulb puts out a much higher total lumen spectral distribution than a 20W actinic. With a 10,000K compact fluorescent bulb, you will get approximately 3.5 times the lumen power generated by the same wattage fluorescent bulb. You will get even more with a metal halide.

Some characters in the keycode can be easily confused (i.e. O and zero, capitol I and the number one, etc.). Try to copy and paste your keycode into the registration space to avoid any possible input errors. Also, your copy of Marine Aquarium may have been corrupted during download or installation.

All of the options below are found in the Marine Aquarium preferences under the "Settings" tab. To bring up the menu, press the spacebar on your keyboard while Marine Aquarium 2.6 is running. Limit Frame Rate (FPS) - Forces the frame rate (animation speed) of the Marine Aquarium to the frequency you select. If Marine Aquarium is jerking, or running slowly, you may need to reduce the frame rate below the default 62 by using the slider bar.

There is no separate "demo version" of Marine Aquarium. We built the Marine Aquarium to act as a demo unless you entered a valid keycode. To properly install SereneScreen Marine Aquarium, and activate the demo mode, follow the instructions below: IMPORTANT: Before installing, make sure your desktop color is set to 16 bit. Also, be sure your anti-virus software is deactivated for the duration of the download and install.

The simplest way to unisntall the Marine Aquarium is to run the Uninstall option through the Start menu under Programs/SereneScreen/Marine Aquarium. Alternativly you can use the Add/Remove Programs utility located in the Control Panel to remove Marine Aquarium. This should clean your system of any Marine Aquarium data. However, if you want to be doubly sure, you can go through the longer uninstall process below: First remove any previous versions of the Marine Aquarium from your system.

Salinity is a measure of the total amount of dissolved salts in seawater. It is measured in parts per thousand (ppt or 0/00). The average salinity of the ocean is around 34 to 37 ppt. Marine aquariums are measured in specific gravity. Specific gravity may be defined as the ration of the density of the liquid to the density of water. The specific gravity of seawater at 35 ppt is 1.026. The proper range for a marine aquarium is 1.020 to 1.026.
