OMAX generally advertises ±0.005" (±0.1 mm) as a typical tolerance for most parts. However, for thicker parts, it may be difficult to achieve. For thinner parts, the advanced user can sometimes get ±0.002" (±0.05 mm). This is accomplished by slowing down the cutting process, and being very careful with the setup. Some OMAX customers even report tolerances as high as ±0.0005" (±0.01 mm), but OMAX considers them to just be lucky.

To the average person in the street, these two terms are synonymous. Yet they mean entirely different things to an analytical chemist. Precision gives an indication of spread of results, i.e. if an analyst measured for the same thing on the same sample a number of times, there would be a spread of results (hopefully not too wide!), and this spread would be measured by the standard deviation. However, results can be precise without being correct i.e.

Repeating the point in the previous section: Scanning paper to create a raster image does not improve the quality in any way. Resolution is the minimum increment to which a measurement can be made. For us, this is a design parameter of the X-Y stage motion encoders or galvo. Accuracy is how close a measurement is to the "true" value. "Truth" is the traceability of the measurement to a primary standard at NIST, a USA governmental agency, National Institute for Standards & Technology. For us, this is conformance to our customer's metrology. Precision is repeatability.
