DJ-1800 doesn't include a record feature at the moment. However, there are two pieces of software which enable you to record DJ-1800's output (and indeed any other application's output) to a file. These are WireTap Pro from Ambrosia Software, and Audio Hijack Pro, from Rogue Amoeba Software. Note that we don't provide support for either program - but they're useful, so we like to tell people about them.

Take a look the Available Disk Space readout at the bottom of the Cakewalk window. If it says you're low, then you're low, and you'll need to clean up some space. To do this, choose Tools | Clean Audio Disk. Click Find, and once all the files are located, choose Delete All. MetaSynth tells the driver to record from the default input channel(s). Some drivers have a hard-wired default while some others allow you to specify an input channel to use as the default channel. We have found that some devices let you specify a default input channel but do not actually use it. Parallel effects devices such as reverbs, delays, or other ambient effects are usually not tracked to tape with the initial multi-tracking. If you can hook up your audio source to the mic jack on your computer you can record easily that way. Most audio devices will be able to connect that way -- usually with a simple audio cable connected from the "Headphones" or "Speaker" jack on the audio device to the mic jack on the computer.

Connect the recorder to the earphone jack on the other device with a connecting cord. Note that every audio I/O device has its own timing system. These devices must round and approximate time units. When recording a device that keeps a BPM tempo you may notice the tempo lags between this recorded device and the Acoustic Labs Multitrack Plus's metronome - especially when you get past a few minutes of recording time. You will need a recording device with a headphone jack, or even better, a Line Out jack. MIDI is not sound. You can't simply press the Bounce button on an output object, and expect the external synth's sound to magically turn up in your final song. MIDI is a series of commands to your MIDI devices, which then may produce the desired sound/audio.
