For international students, the TOEFL exam is required and must have a computer based score of 173 or higher,a paper based score of 500 or higher, or an internet based score of 90 or higher.

When should I apply? The deadline for fall admission is May 15, but we start admitting students early in February. Applications that are received after we have started the admission process have a reduced chance of admission because there will be fewer open positions remaining. For fall applicants, we recommend that the application be mailed no later than mid-January in order to have the best chance of admission. The answer to both questions is yes.

Students have the option of retaking the GRE/MAT or pass a written essay. Students may schedule to write the essay with the Department Secretary. If the essay is not passed, a referral is made to the Gene Elrod Success Center for completion of the writing tutorial program. Upon completion, the essay is rewritten. If passed, and all other application requirements are adequate, the student is unconditionally admitted.

The Graduate Record Examination is a requirement for admission. Please take the GRE test and submit your scores to Institution code 1839, Department code 4401. It takes approximately 6–8 weeks to have the score reported to the University, so please make arrangements so that your scores will be received before the January 15 deadline. All freshmen applicants are required to take either the College Board's Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or the ACT by November 2007. There is no minimum SAT or ACT score required for admission. SAIS has no minimum GRE or GMAT score for M.I.P.P. applicants. However, M.I.P.P. applicants who have spent less than two years at an institution where English is the medium of instruction and whose native language is not English are required to submit a TOEFL score of at least 600 on the paper-based exam, 250 on the computer-based exam, or 100 on the Internet-based exam. Aoplicants submitting IELTS scores must score a minimum of 7.5.

OSU requires a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in all previous undergraduate and graduate work for regular admission to graduate school. The UALR School of Social Work does not have a fixed score requirement. In general, a score of 1000 on two sections and 4.5 on the writing sample would be considered competitive for the GRE. A 50th percentile would be considered a competitive score on the MAT. The standardized test is one factor considered as part of your application. You will not be reviewed solely on your ability to take a standardized test. These test scores are most important for students who have low GPAs.
