In accordance with the vision of the program, Cornell Plantations Graduate Fellows are selected based on their dedication and potential contribution to the public garden field, quality of work and life experiences (particularly as they relate to the field of public garden management), leadership qualities and past academic achievements.

Academic and nonacademic qualifications are considered in the selection process. Selection for admission is based on the sum of two scores: an objective score which comprises approximately 60-70 percent of the final calculation and a subjective score which comprises the remainder. The objective evaluation is based on scholastic achievement and standardized test scores. Official transcripts of college course grades are examined to determine scholastic achievement.

We select students primarily from: contests in various departments (like invention contests, business plan contests, film-making contests, improv/acting contests), through nominations from Professors and TAs, and basically places where students stand out from the crowd by their creativity. Then these students go through a screening process where we score them using our internal scoring system based on how well they brainstorm and what is their style.
