Why doesn't source control detect that I have deleted a file/folder on my local disk?

Jim Lamb : Team Foundation Server FAQ
The main scenario here is deleting a file (by mistake or intentionally) outside of Team Foundation and then trying the get that file back from source control. If the file version has not changed the server thinks the user already has the file and does not copy it over. This is because the server keeps a list of files that the user already has and when activities are made outside of source control this list becomes out of date.

source file. Why?

news.answers/apple2/GNO-faq
A#13.3: Your program is probably changing its current working directory. The C preprocessor inserts tokens that tell the compiler which file (and on which line) it is currently processing. This information is eventually passed to the debugger. Some of the pathnames are, in general, relative to the directory from which your program was compiled. Splat! uses these relative pathnames to locate the source files that it is supposed to display.

Cons FAQVersion 1.2
Cons will use MD5 signatures for files outside the local build directory. The catch is that Cons does not, by default, search the standard directories for adding a file to its signature calculation. The search directories must be explicitly specified via CPPPATH or LIBPATH. You get the expected behavior: % cons . cc -I/usr/include -I. -c foo.c -o foo.o cc -o foo foo.o % cons . cons: "." is up-to-date. % su Password: # vi /usr/include/stdio.h # exit % cons . cc -I/usr/include -I. -c foo.c -o foo.

Q) a source that doesn't have an author?

Since we are discussing books here, you would just replace the title in the area where the author's name usually would go. Use the author's name for only the first entry. For all other entries, type three hyphens followed by a period. Make sure the titles are sorted in alphabetical order. The same way you would cite a normal book entry. You would just place "ed." (editor) or "eds." (editors) following a comma after the author's name.

How do you detect if a company is referred to in a source?

Thai StockWatch - Frequently Asked Questions
Naturally the company name is a strong factor but this is far from enough, as the full company name is not always given. Occurence of a company symbol in the article is of course also relevant, but much more is needed than just to scan for symbols. E.g. the symbol TRUBB would very surely mean that the article contained a referral to Thai Rubber Latex Corporation (Thailand) PLC, but how about THAI, PR and IT? These are common abbreviations, but they are also stock symbols.

What happens when I check in an update to a file in source control?

FAQ: Visual Studio Team Foundation Server
TFS uses the reverse delta model as most source control systems do. However, there are several notable things that TFS does. First creating the reverse deltas is performed asynchronously as a background task. At first, the new copy is uploaded and saved. Sometime later (usually not very long), a background job will run and convert the older version from a full copy to a reverse delta (assuming the delta is actually smaller than the original ? usually, but not always the case).
