Gloss AQ coating is a coating that has a high gloss that is shiny and matte has a coating that seem by appearance to have a dull finish.

Matte canvas is a clean canvas surface that has no glare or reflection which will give a print an artistic feel. Gloss canvas has a gloss coating on the canvas that resembles the appearance of a photograph which does have a reflection in light.

RAM Printing recommends a varnish or an aqueous coating anytime your project has heavy ink coverage. At the very least, either will act as a protective coating to help eliminate offset, scratching, and rub off. An aqueous coating is used as an all over coating and is best for minimizing fingerprints on coated stocks. We have limited capabilities for doing "spot" aqueous coating.

Not with our equipment! We can easily address aqueous-coated pieces. In fact, adding aqueous is a great way to avoid the scuffing which can occur during the sorting and delivering of your pieces in the mailing process. If you plan to have us print your products but have someone else address and mail them, please check to make sure the aqueous coating won't interfere with their process. Some bulk mailing services have problems working with aqueous coating.

Matte surface is a dull surface. The tin has not been re-melted (reflowed). Reflowed surface is very shiny and reflective. The tin coating has been given a flash heating process at a temperature just above the melting point of tin, wherein the tin melts and refreezes very rapidly, resulting in a reflective surface.

Make sure not to graduate too quickly from a 180 file to the white block. Try using the white block buffer a little longer than seems necessary. Natural oil is the finish to choose if you intend to cut upon your butcher block directly. For natural oil finish butcher blocks, it is recommended that you re-oil the surface every 4 weeks or so using a pure white mineral oil that you can purchase at a regular grocery store or hardware store.
