Vodafone Mobile Connect USB Modem is a super fast and super simple modem that can be plugged into any PC or Laptop to provide Internet connection up to 3.6Mps speed over M1’s new HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) network.

Even though it shows you are connected at 3.6Mmbps, it depends on which broadband plan you are on. The speed might vary according to the broadband plan you are on.

The Modem installs the software by itself once you have plugged into the PC or Laptop. There are no other CD-ROMs for you to use for the installation.

The modem can be used on any PC or Laptop (that meets the minimum requirements) and it is portable. However the internet connection cannot be shared. The 3G Broadband Router will be more suitable for this use as the Internet connection can be shared.

Vodafone Mobile Connect is the software used to connect to the Internet using the Vodafone 3G datacard. It also offers support for VPN (Virtual Private Network). Vodafone Mobile Connect ‘Lite’, is the software automatically installed by the Vodafone USB Modem. It allows connecting to the Internet but offers no support for VPN. It is possible however to use the full working version which can be downloaded from our website if required.

Go to ‘Tools>Select Network’ in the Vodafone Mobile Connect software and choose Manual to see the various networks that support 3G/GPRS connections. All current Mobile Connect cards do not have the physical capability to be used on the higher speed, so upgrading the software won't help.

HSPPA or 3G will be detected wherever it is available. If there is no HSPPA/3G signal, the Vodafone Mobile Connect software will connect to GPRS, if available. Vodafone Mobile Connect will only search for 3G service. If no 3G signal is detected, no connection will be made. GPRS will be detected wherever it is available. If no GPRS signal is detected, Vodafone Mobile Connect software will try to connect to 3G. Vodafone Mobile Connect will only search for GPRS service.

Yes, the 3G/GPRS data card is a quad-band device (900/1800/1900/2100MHz) that will enable you to connect to any overseas network with which M1 has a roaming agreement. In addition, you can roam with Vodafone networks at only $0.0105/KB.* Please refer to the list of data roaming destinations.

From the Vodafone Mobile Connect screen, select Tools > Options > Programs > VPN > Other and browse for your VPN client program. Press OK and you will see a shortcut VPN icon on the Vodafone Mobile Connect software.

ETHERNET – Each of these green LEDs will be solidly lit when there is an active connection to the corresponding Ethernet port of the Router. Each LED flashes when there is network traffic passing through the corresponding port. WIRELESS – This green LED will be solidly lit when the Router is connected to the Wireless-G (802.11g) and/or Wireless-B (802.11b) network.

Remove the Vodafone Mobile Connect Card from the Router, and then look on the back of the card. You will see “Option Model GT 3G Quad” which is currently sold at M1 Shops.

You need to access the GUI of the WRT54G3G in order to verify if the card can really be detected or not. The detailed information can be found on the STATUS – 3G/GPRS Card Status. If the 3G datacard is working, you should be able to see the Model, revision and firmware of the 3G card. Alternatively, you can also use the PCMCIA slot of your notebook to check if the card is still functioning. Once the 3G card is inserted, the computer must be able to detect it.

Some recently introduced laptops are equipped with the new ‘Express Card’ slot. There is no card available at the moment for Express Card slots. The USB Modem however will work with all laptops that support USB.

With the current adapters you cant, the USB modem is the DSL equivalent of a WinModem and requires some processor power to perform the modem functions and convert the ATM data into TCP/IP for presentation to the PC.
