Many people 'discover' a wonderful, original Victorian style floor when they move into a new (old) home or maybe lift a hall carpet or other floor covering. These floors are typified by small unglazed clay tiles in earthy colours; red, black, buff, sometimes with white, blue and green elements, laid in geometric repeating patterns with sometimes quite elaborate borders. The usual problem with these floors is a build up of waxes, polishes and many years of general dirt and grime.

A. Again, this depends on the type of tile you choose. Generally speaking, our floor tiles can be mopped regularly with tile cleaners. We also have stronger cleaners for the initial cleaning, products that are designed to remove any grout residue. These products may also be used to remove most stubborn marks on your floor. Porcelains and some natural products like terracotta and slate require different products; we can give you all the information and a demonstration in the showroom.

Yes. If the old tiles are high-gloss, we recommend sanding them down first to increase bonding strength. Then use a high-strength latex thinset to install the new tile.

Absolutely. All tiled floors need expansion joints and with heating installed the need for expansion joints is even more critical.

It is very easy to clean a Pre-finished hardwood floor. Simply dust mop, sweep, or vacuum (vacuum should have rubber wheels so not to scratch the floor). Most flooring dealers also sell cleaning kits, which come with a mop as well as an approved cleaner. If you are not sure which cleaner is appropriate for your floor, contact your local dealer for assistance.

Unfortunately not. The installation of tile heating can only be done before the tiles are laid. If however you have purchased a new existing home without tile heating, you can have a carpet heater installed under a loose lay rug to negate the problem.

This depends on a number of factors like the sub-floor type and insulation: a cement sub-floor will be slow to warm without a thermal insulation barrier, creating a significant drag on the performance of the floor heating. A layer of high quality insulation will have a dramatic effect in these circumstances, speeding up the initial warm up times to within 15-20 minutes. We recommend the use of Fastwarm® underfloor heating insulation.

Yes it definitely is possible to fit new tiles on top of an old tiled floor providing that none of the underneath tiles are loose or uneven. However it is not advisable as the cost would be high and you would be reducing the headroom (height between the floor and the ceiling). However if you still want to go ahead, then see that the existing surface provides a good 'grip'. If the existing flooring is of glazed tiles then they have to be roughened to give a good grip for the new floor.

We only sell transition molding profiles for our bamboo flooring- available in colors matching our cork flooring colors. Typically, carpet layers or tile setters will install reducer trim as a part of their floor-covering installation.

Floor Mat Guys' floor mats will provide years of satisfaction with proper care. Clean the floor mats regularly by vacuuming them. Our mats can be washed with mild soap and water and hung out to dry to produce wonderful results. Do not wash the floor mats in a washing machine, it may damage the machine.

The surface layer of Pergo flooring is hard and compact, so dirt and dust do not adhere to it easily. An occasional damp mopping with a mild detergent, a quick sweeping or light vacuuming with the hard floor attachments are usually all it takes to keep your Pergo floor clean. Do not use soaps or similar greasy products because they may leave a film, dulling the floor. Difficult spots like nail polish, markers, tar and cigarette burns can be removed with acetone or nail polish remover.

Yanchi Bamboo flooring cleans easily with a Swiffer or similar type dry mop. As with a hardwood floor, you should avoid excessive moisture. A slightly damp mop may be used to mop up a spill. For a light cleaning just use a broom, dust mop, or leaf blower. Simple ammonia water applied with a mop works great for a deeper cleaning. You’ll want to stay away from soaps because these leave a film, which, when wet, become very slippery.

DanceDeck and DanceDeck Deluxe are simple to clean. Use any standard no-wax vinyl tile cleaner on the vinyl DanceDeck. Use any standard urethane floor cleaner on the wood DanceDeck Deluxe. To eliminate scuff marks on both types of floor, use an SOS or Brillo pad and rub lightly.

Water and oil will bead up on your floor when sealed as recommended in our Installation Specification Guide. You need only mop it up with a sponge. For routine cleaning vacuum or sweep it, as you would any other natural stone floor or a wood floor. To wipe up, use a non-acid based cleaning product. Warm, soapy water is also fine. AquaMix makes a tile cleaning product, Concentrated Stone & Tile Cleaner, which can be used on your floor. Check their website at www.aquamix.

Vacuum with a soft brush or wipe with a slightly damp mop. Do not soak floor or use strong detergent cleanser. To remove stains, use a mild non-abrasive cleanser. Floor mats are recommended at all exterior doorways.

Our floors are not only safe, they are very easy to clean. Simply sweep or blow the debris off the floor and damp mop, if you like. Our texture is rounded so it mops very easily and doesn't leave mop strings. Oil and other automotive fluids wipe up with a paper towel.

To maintain your timber floor is simple. All you need to do is give it a quick vacuum, a swift going over with a dust mop or when you have any spills or dirt on your floor, using cleaning product in warm water that is suitably recommended for timber boards.

Regularly vacuum or sweep your laminate floor serves the purpose of general cleaning. You can also choose to wipe your floor occasionally with a cloth mop or a light damp cloth. Frequent cleaning with water is not necessary. To remove heavier spots or stains, apply a cleaner especially formulated for varnished hardwood floors or a nonabrasive household cleaner diluted in water. A mixture of household vinegar or ammonia and water is suitable for heavier cleaning as well.

Most people install a polyurethane hardwood floor. These floors are easy to clean and maintain as long as you follow a few simple steps. First of all you will want to use a vacuum or broom to get rid of grit and dust. Make sure to use a vacuum with a floor attachment or an upright vacuum with a hardwood floor setting. A vacuum with a beater bar could harm your floors. You may then want to use a dry untreated dust mop.

Do not use household dust treatment chemicals on the tile. Use a vinyl floor cleaner and separate finish. Both must be water-based. Vacuums: Do not use a beater brush on a vinyl floor. Use the proper solid floor attachment for vacuuming. NO WAX! Do not wax a vinyl floor. All of our vinyl flooring contains a no-wax finish. The flooring is non-porous and will not absorb wax. It will build up and collect even more dirt.

Clean or replace the filters. Hint: If you are picking up fine dust, the filter may look clean but a fine substance tends to reduce suction when it blocks the airflow through the filters. Check the tank. Be sure the lid is properly seated onto the tank. Empty the tank. Note: The tank should be emptied after each use or when dirt and debris build up within half the distance to the filter. This will optimize performance and keep the filter cleaner. Clean the cone shaped filter in the cassette lid.

Wipe spills immediately. When accidents happen and some liquid gets spilled on your hardwood floor, you should use a slightly damp white cloth or paper towel to immediately clean up and dry the effected area. For more difficult spots, follow the manufacturer’s recommended cleaning procedures. Don’t damp mop. Water and wood floors don’t mix! Use only the manufacturer’s recommended cleaning products on your hardwood floor. Vacuum regularly.
