In physics, radiant intensity and radiance are integrated across a wide range of wavelengths. In color science, we are interested in power only in the visible band. Radiant intensity, weighted by the spectral sensitivity associated with the brightness sensation of vision, is luminous intensity. It is expressed in units of candelas (cd). The weighting curve is defined numerically and standardized by the CIE; it is called the luminous efficiency of the Standard Observer.

The Luminous SkyTile Elevator is a patent-pending lightweight aluminum frame that rests on the T-bar grid of a modular ceiling. It takes the place of an acoustic tile. It is also the seat for the Luminous SkyTile, the image component of a Luminous SkyCeiling. The 'Elevator' serves several purposes: (1) It lifts the SkyTile up about 1.25 inches, eliminating the shadows or reflections that are otherwise cast by the vertical component of ceiling grid T-bar.

The short answer is 'no,' and here's why: The critical issues with lighting a Luminous SkyCeiling are: (1) that the color temperature of the lighting be in the daylight range, 6100-6500K, and (2) that the illumination of the Luminous SkyTile is uniform from edge to edge. Our fluorescent and RFfreeLux light housings (called 'troffers') have been designed to achieve perfectly even illumination of your Luminous SkyCeiling with daylight-balanced light.

Luminous SkyCeilings utilize Luminous SkyTiles, transparent sky image panels that fit into a hung ceiling. They are illuminated from behind by our custom lighting systems. Luminous SkyCeilings require 9" of clearance from the bottom of the hung ceiling to the hard ceiling deck above. Although simple to install, experience with electrical wiring/switching is required.

A pilot study entitled Influence of The Sky Factory SkyCeilings? in the Workplace was done by Mark, Snedaker and Stock at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2005. In their summary they said, "The Sky Factory can and should claim that their SkyCeilings contribute to employee's perceived productivity. In addition, our analysis clearly shows that the installation of Sky Factory ceiling tiles improves the attitude of employees.

You'll need 9" from the room-side surface of the modular ceiling grid to the hard ceiling deck or lowest obstacle directly above the SkyCeiling. This distance will accommodate the Luminous SkyTile Elevator, the Luminous SkyTile, and the lighting troffer and its wiring. If you do not have this clearance, you may create the necessary depth by adding a Floating Luminous SkyCeiling to your ceiling grid.

Every one of us is part of a greater living entity. In biology class we all learned that life as we know it started with single-celled organisms. Mechanics of the hydrogen decay excites the phosphorescent (luminous) pigments causing them to phosphoresce (glow). Thus there is no need for an external ultra-violet source to excite the phosphorescent material.

T-5 fluorescent lighting is an energy-efficient and long lasting source of real daylight-balanced lighting for your SkyCeiling or Luminous Virtual Window. It is the most popular choice, and the least expensive of our two systems. RFfreeLux LED lighting is a patent-pending system that we developed for use in MRI suites and other shielded facilities, where elimination of radio frequency interference (RFI) is a requirement.

Use high-key, pastel tints, very clean and bright, surrounded by middle-key (not dark) low-intensity (gray) neutrals. In the illustration I've surrounded yellow and pale red with a grayed violet. Because the violet is complementary to the yellow, the glow of the center is enhanced. This was J.M.W. Turner's method. Avoid hard edges and let the colors blend to enhance the effect of the glow. Luminous will always be present and glow. Once the usefulness of the tritium in exciting the phosphorescent material (luminous) no longer exists, the phosphorescent (luminous) material may still be excited by ultra-violet radiation (eg. sunlight, neon light).

Luminous energy field or aura is a multi-layered shell of energy that emanates from the physical body, whether of humans, animals, plants, places or objects, and that interacts with the energies of its environment. The key factors are the mounting height of the heater and the heating application. If the mounting height is between 15 and 70 feet, or you need spot (or focused) heating, a luminous heater may be best. well as utilizing modern materials and technologies in construction of the heater, Schwank ensures that your infrared heating system is properly designed. Properly sized and placed heaters, will reduce fuel consumption by 30 to 60%, compared to a conventional heating system. A bad design utilizing a smaller number of large capacity units, mounted at maximum heights, produces inadequate comfort and higher operating costs that far exceed any savings on the purchase\installation price.

Tube heaters were introduced after luminous heaters, but the best luminous heaters utilize relatively new technology, and employ more advances and offer significantly better efficiency - a key advantage of Schwank luminous heaters. It’s also important to note that the best choice depends on the budget, the application and the payback period (when fuel savings have paid for the heating system).

With conventional luminous colours, a luminous mass is applied to a carrier material which is then covered with a protective varnish. After just a very short time, radioactive disintegration particles diffuse through the varnish and enrich surrounding materials. With trigalight, the radioactive gas (tritium) is firmly sealed and isolated in a glass capillary. No diffusion results.

One point of view holds that it's possible to do this job yourself. However, for best results, the hands must be carefully removed and the old luminous material stripped. There are problems with this. First, safely removing the old hands will require special hand pullers. We have seen hands that were removed by untrained personnel with pliers or screwdrivers. It’s a shame to see these clocks because the hands are often permanently damaged and the dials badly marred.

With respect to vintage clocks, “Luminous dial” refers to hands, numbers, dots, etc. that are painted with a material that continues to glow after the ambient light in the room is turned off. It does NOT refer to an electric backlight behind the dial, as we see in newer electric clocks. These are usually referred to as “Lighted dials.
