The first rule is to bring plenty along! 15-25 rolls (or more!) Although film is available in Nairobi and at some lodges, it can be expensive. For color slides, we recommend Kodacrome 64 and high-speed ektachrome 400, the latter for low-light conditions. For more natural colors you may prefer Fuji 400 HR. For color prints, Kodacolor or Kodak Gold 100 and 400 give excellent results. If you want to take pictures at night you’ll need Kodak Ektar 1000.

None, film is pretty much irrelevant today. Just kidding, look for a Nikon F100 or Canon EOS 3 or 1v. I have a Canon AE-1 or AE-1 Program that does not seem to work anymore, or I need lenses and accessories for it.

I think many well-meaning tobacconists do a disservice to the novice by suggesting a "mild" tobacco, especially an aromatic tobacco, to start with. Film speed definitely makes a difference. I recommend no less than 400 ISO. Although anomalies have been captured on 200 ISO I have found that most times anything lower than 400 ISO does not have the ability catch the rapid movement of the electromagnetic anomalies that we encounter. Generally speeds below 400 ISO do not have the ability to capture high speed or high energy anomalies, however that is not to say that it can not be done.

I personally prefer rims that are the standard 11" because they usually have more ring than plunk. In earlier times the rims came in sizes that you wouldn't expect, running from less than 10 1/2'' to 12'' and more. Remember, that was the age of tom cat hides, flour pokes paper or whatever was available. Mylar and other plastics have replaced ground hogs and tom cats which has made a great difference in strength, stability and sound.

This depends on the banjo, the tone ring, the size rim and the sound that you prefer. I don't like the banjo heads that have a fiber layer over the mylar plastic layer. These heads tend to just dull the sound. ''If there is anything else available, I spit on the so called 'fyber skyn' banjo heads''. I prefer a banjo head that will let the banjo ring. Here's the problem: think of all the variables that are presented here.

The easiest way to distinguish between Regular 8mm and Super 8mm film is to look at the location of the perforations in relation to the frames. Regular 8mm film was produced from 1932 to the 1990's. It's popularity declined 1965 with the introduction of Super 8mm. On Regular 8mm film the perforations are between the frames. Super 8mm film was introduced in 1965 and in 1973 became sound enabled with the addition of a magnetic sound stripe.

Wes Craven:: I recommend any way you can get around people who know how to make movies. It seems to me film school is a good way, or if you can get yourself a job on a movie or in an editing room or some way you can observe people doing it firsthand, that's good too. We have always recommended PowerMaster fuels. We do this because this is the fuel we use, and believe that it has all the ingredients and quality you should expect. We test on 15% and use the synthetic/castor blend. We like clear fuels better than "dyed" fuels, but the dye doesn't really hurt anything. You should use what ever high quality fuel you are comfortable with. If you have never had a problem with your present fuel, then Jetts will not have a problem either.
