We concentrate mainly on saving the lives of the pets that are in Shelters and Animal Controls. Most of them are days away from being euthanized when we bring them into our rescue. We will take in owner surrenders if we have space but we do ask for a small donation of either pet food, vetting the pet before coming to us, any supplies you may have on hand to help care for the pet while with us or any supplies that will benefit pets that come to us from shelters.

We concentrate on saving and rehoming most Bully/Molosser Breeds, Rottweilers and most Small Breeds but we will take in others depending on space. We will occatioally take in a cat or kitten if we have the room. We evaluate every pet that comes into our rescue, we temperment test them to make sure they get along with kids, cats and other dogs. We also test for any aggressions they may have with food, toys and treats.

We will start dogs and puppies on potty training, crate training and some basic house manners, we also expose them to as many new situations as possible.

It depends on the situation. Often times a rescue is not required. With cats in trees, we strongly suggest opening a can of tuna (this usually works), leaving the immediate area and waiting for the cat to get down on its own.

Often people's living circumstances change ? for example, due the birth of a child, a job change or a move ? that make it impossible for them to continue caring for their pet. These people choose rescue because they know we screen prospective homes and look for the best home for their beloved dog.

A "pet" is: a domesticated animal. An animal who a human being has interjected into a humanly-altered environment. That is, it's all the same world, but we took the existing land, earth, water, trees, fields, randomness and wildness, and built sturdy structures on top of, inside of, adjacent to it all, in order to better inhabit and survive the elements and factors of living on this planet. We exist here, and the Animal and Plant Kingdoms exist here as well.

mentioned above, the Colonial Schipperke Club is very active in finding homes for "pre-owned" Schipperkes. These are Schips who for reasons normally not of their making, have lost their people. They may be lost or stolen dogs, dogs who suffer from the deaths or divorces of their owners, or dogs who are given up for a variety of reasons by their original owners. Colonial members often provide foster care or brokering services to match up these dogs with new owners.

First of all, you will not be rescuing a Bearded Collie unless you are actually out visiting shelters or searching dog pounds. More likely you will be adopting from Bearded Collie Rescue or another organization that has rescued the dog in some manner (from kill shelters, abandoned, or even from people who advise they are taking the dog to a shelter and offering Rescue a chance to take it before they do).

the time you adopt one of our rescue Cairns, you will be asked to make a donation to CPCRN. This donation helps defray shelter fees and other costs paid to procure our Rescues, the cost of transporting them to our foster homes, the costs of providing them with food and appropriate veterinary care, including spay/neuter, immunizations, heartworm testing and prevention, and other medical and/or grooming needs as are required by the particular dogs in our program.

Researchers are trying to find out exactly why ozone has an impact on asthma and what to do about it. There's an on-site testing technique for exercise-induced asthma that screens athletes while in their natural environment. Many suffering from asthma also suffer from acid reflux. Research is underway to see if treating the GERD will ease the asthma. A theory suggests that early exposure to environmental allergens boosts the immune system and reduces the risk for asthma.

The Tibetan Terrier is a rare, mid-sized (20-25 lbs.) shaggy dog which comes in a wide variety of colors including black, white, silver, cream, golden and sable in solid, parti-color, and tri-color combinations. He is small enough to live comfortably in an apartment and share your bed or chair, yet large enough to enjoy a long hike or romp with kids. Owners often describe them as a large dog in a small dog's body.

We're a group of volunteers forming an organization whose sole purpose is to try to find homes for as many of the thousands of lost or abandoned dogs found in the Metro Atlanta county animal shelters as we can possibly manage before they are put to death. We have virtually no assets and do not solicit donations, although we are a charitable organization recognized by IRS under section 501(c)3 of the US Tax Code.

All of the animals at PMMC were found stranded on the beaches, jetties or oil platforms along the coast that we serve. When we are notified of a stranded animal, we rescue it only if there is cause to do so. While it is quite normal for a pinniped to come out onto land and rest, it is not normal for them to do so in populated areas nor is it normal for them to allow humans anywhere near them.

Because you are a good and caring person who wants to do something good for a dog. You are willing to open you home to a dog in need and spend time getting that dog adjusted to his new home. And you will provide that dog with love, companionship, shelter, food and take care of his or her health needs. Many people approach rescue saying that they want to do something good for dogs. There are too many dogs already and taking a rescue into their home is a way of helping.

Quite honestly, Rescue first determines if you should have any sort of dog. Then determines if a Bearded Collie is the right dog for you. Have you read our section reasons you may not want to own one ? Just as with a breeder, Rescue wants the Beardie to have a good home. They don't want to find it at the shelter again. Many of these dogs came into rescue because they ran away in the first place.

Some approach rescue as an alternative to going to a Breeder, and happily tell the rescue person or fill in an application saying "I want a rescue puppy." You should know that very rarely does rescue get a puppy under a year old. It happens of course, but with Bearded Collies it may be a years between rescue puppies. Owners tend to keep puppies inside and watch them carefully. Puppies don't have the urge to run like some adults do.

A8. Absolutely! Goldens shed a little all year round and twice a year they lose most of their coat. Anyone intent on a "hair free" home, should reconsider getting a Golden. Their coat requires brushing of at least once a week. Their hair can be long and can become matted if it isn't properly cared for. A thorough grooming to trim the hair on the paws, tail, and around the ears needs to be done on a monthly basis.

Often times, when people hear the term "animal rescue," or more specifically "dog rescue," they immediately think of search and rescue--that is, animals employed in the use of locating people lost in the wilderness or by some other peril, such as natural disaster. Animal rescue (dog rescue, cat rescue, horse rescue, etc.) is different. It is people rescuing animals from peril, such as threat of euthanasia by animal shelters and other at-risk situations.

Many people do not want to leave their homes without their pets. Your local Council will do as much as they can to ensure you can bring your pets with you. However, in some situations, perhaps when your pet cannot be found, you may be asked to leave without them in order to ensure your safety. Once at the rest centre, your pets will be looked after in a separate area (or maybe taken to specialist kennels).

The procedure is simple and similar to administering a vaccine. The microchip comes preloaded in a sterile applicator and is injected under the skin between the shoulder blades.

The majority of our pets come from outlying animal control facilities where they have run out of time. These facilities have limited means to hold pets for an extended period of time, and therefore, so many adoptable dogs are euthanisized because the facility is full or the pet is not considered adoptable after the required holding period. We also accept a small number of pets from owners who can no longer keep them. We do not accept stray animals.

Atlanta Pet Rescue is mainly a small dog rescue. Most of our available pets weigh less than 25 pounds. We accept dogs that pass a temperament test. These pets do not show signs of aggression towards people or other animals. We do accept dogs over 25 pounds on occasion.

No. It would probably be illegal to judiciously sedate your pet. This needs to be authorized by a licensed vet. If your pet becomes unruly and needs sedation, we will contact your vet. A pet can have a bad night, but if your pet generally needs to be sedated for boarding, we are not for you. If your pet requires a sedative for thunderstorms or fireworks that is fine, they will be administered. Many clients have commented that their pets were sedated while at the kennel.
