The facility is owned and managed by the Pella Opera House Commission, a private, nonprofit board composed of local citizens.

The Pella Opera House was built in 1900 as the community's social and cultural center and remained so until the "talkies." In 1986 a group of concerned citizens set out to renovate the venue and Pella Opera House reopened it's doors in 1990.

Although we do not have our own parking lot, there is a parking lot one block north. There is also street parking available.

The Opera House was built in 1909 by U.S. Martin, who served as Shepherdstown's mayor. Within that same year, it was sold to the Musser family who installed one of the earliest motion picture projectors. The Opera House ran nightly, often showing as many as three different films each week. In 1928 the Opera House became the first motion picture theatre in West Virginia with sound, enabling it to show the newfangled "talkies.

The main level of The Opera House is accessible to wheelchairs, access to the stage level and balcony is not, and there are two sets of stairs of two to the stage level. A Wheelchair accessible washroom is available.

No, smoking inside facilities such as ours is against the law in Ontario. This will be strictly enforced. We provide a fenced area outside the venue for those patrons of legal age who want to smoke.

Although the name of our venue was originally the Pella Opera House this is not the genre of entertainments normally performed. Opera House was a common name given to entertainment venues in the late 1800's and early 1900's because of social attitudes toward "theatre establishments."
