The keyboard wedge interface is a chain, like daisy-chaining (e.g. SCSI), or serial pass-thru. It does not require a terminator or terminating device at the end of the chain (the farthest device from the keyboard port). The last device on the chain can be a keyboard wedge device or a standard AT keyboard. This type of keyboard can only exist as the last device on the chain.

A keyboard wedge is a device that plugs into your system between the keyboard and the computer. A BarCode Keyboard Wedge Decoder is a microcomputer which decodes the signals generated by a BarCode Scanner (while reading a label), and converts the analized bar and space patterns into the original data. The data scanned from a bar code symbol is treated as it is typed in from the keyboard. For RS-232 interface, the scanner or reader connects to a serial port and transmits serial data to the host machine. The host must be set up to receive serial data.

The AG-5 generates all the characters of a standard keyboard except for Scroll Lock and SysRq. Punctuations and mathematical characters are generated by simultaneously pressing one of the green or red shift keys located on the front top surface of the AG-5 and the corresponding character key. For example, to generate the "&" you would simultaneously press the green shift key with your left thumb and the "i" key (located on the back of the AG-5) with your right middle finger.

The keyboard locale may change after sending a message based on the capabilites of the font being used. If the message font that you are using does not natively support the active keyboard locale, the keyboard locale will reset to the default locale for the font. The solution to the locale changing when you send a message is to select a different message font that supports the keyboard locale that you are using.
