Yes. The UITS Department has enabled IMAP over secure SSL for use with the Huskymail Student Mail system. This will allow all students to use IMAP client mail programs (Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape Messenger, etc...) to access their mail without connecting to the Huskymail Website. For Instructions on configuring your Mail Program for IMAP, please click here. UITS has decided to keep @Uconn.edu mail address for all students, in addition to the @huskymail.uconn.edu address. This depends on your needs. POP is ideal if you like to download your messages to your computer and read them offline, or if you typically only use one computer for reading your mail. IMAP allows you to read your mail selectively instead of downloading everything at once--you can save messages to your own computer as needed.

Exchange users may access their email with any standards-compliant POP2 or IMAP client. Those customers wishing to utilize Exchange's calendaring functionality must use Outlook (Entourage on the Mac) or the web interface.

A NetID is issued to every student as an unique identifier; user name or log-on providing access rights to a variety of online services. A NetID is "system specific", so the password you set is only good for associated services, such as Huskymail, WebCT, Proxy, VPN, and NetReg. Other systems that use NetID log-on include applications within the Bursars, Registrar's and Housing offices.

Inbox.tntech.edu is a web-based email system. Access via IMAP or POP is NOT available. Optionally, you can forward your mail to another service, such as hotmail or gmail, and then use POP to retrieve your messages.

Change your IMAP/POP server name from [?php echo $brand['ServerName']; ?] to [?php echo $brand['SSLDomain']; ?] You may have a problem with your web browser. Try making sure you have the latest version of your browser (for Internet Explorer, go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com for updates). Try clicking 'refresh' or pressing F5. Try clearing your cache (Tools-#gt;Options-#gt;Delete Files, if you use Internet Explorer). Try closing and reopening your browser.

Your outgoing SMTP server depends on the location of your mailer's internet connection. If your mailer is connected directly to the CS subnet use mail.cs.colostate.edu. If you're connected from some other location on campus, including the ACNS modem pool, then use yuma.acns.colostate.edu. If you're using an outside service-provider, consult the provider to obtain the outgoing SMTP server. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

However, your pop-up blocker may prevent iMAP from opening. iMAP launches in a new browser window, a necessary function which could nevertheless be prevented by a pop-up blocker installed in your computer or browser. If you click on a link to launch iMAP and nothing happens, there is a good chance a pop-up blocker is preventing iMAP from launching Most pop-up blockers give you the ability to choose sites that you trust so that pop-ups and new browser windows are allowed for those sites only.

POP mail enables you to use an email program, like MS Outlook and Outlook Express, on your own computer to send, receive and manage your emails. POP mail is one of the most functional ways to work with email. When you use POP mail, you actually download your emails from our server to your computer. Your emails are then stored on your own computer, which means you can manage your emails offline. You only need to be connected to the Internet to send and receive emails.

Pop downloads your mail from the server to the machine you check your mail from and stores the mail locally on that machine. IMAP keeps a copy of your mail on the server and only downloads messages as you look at them (unless you specify for it to behave differently.) POP is generally the method chosen by most. IMAP is helpful when you are often checking mail from different computers as you will have access to all your mail from each computer you use.

When you first configure your email address in a program such as Thunderbird or Outlook, you will be prompted to use either a POP or IMAP account. IMAP keeps your mail folders on the server. It is compatible with using CubMail. You can switch between different computers, mail programs, and CubMail, and they will all show the same mail folders and have the same messages marked as seen. If you want this flexibility, use IMAP. POP keeps the mail folders on the PC.

IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is a protocol that allows you to access electronic mail messages that are kept on a remote mail server rather than a local computer allowing you to view your messages on more than one computer. However, POP (Post Office Protocol) is a protocol used to download E-mail messages from a mail server to a local computer.

When electronic mailboxes were established, their defined structure was titled "Post Office Protocol." Or, in short hand, POP boxes. IMAP is Internet Message Access Protocol. RVMail.net can use both.

Both POP and IMAP are protocols used to retrieve emails from a server. POP is however designed to only fetch email from the Inbox folder and the email can be deleted or kept after retrieval. IMAP on the other hand, can be used to fetch emails from several folders. With IMAP, the emails and folders are always stored on the server and synched with your email client. (Please see the Email Help Center for a link to your specific POP and IMAP configuration information.)

Fetchmail can use RFC1731 GSSAPI authorization to safely identify you to your IMAP server, as long as you can share Kerberos V credentials with your mail host and you have a GSSAPI-capable IMAP server. UW-IMAP (available via FTP at ftp.cac.washington.edu) is the only one I'm aware of and the one I recommend anyway for other reasons. You'll need version 4.1-FINAL or greater though, and it has to have GSS support compiled in.

POP & IMAP email accounts store email on the server in a mailbox. You can download your email using from the server using a POP enabled email program or read your email directly on the server using a IMAP enabled email program or our webmail feature. you can only use our smtp server while on the CS network (smtp.cs.jhu.edu). you will need to use your service provider make sure you have read the back of your account form. If you do not have an account form, one is posted on the CS lab door

We presume you already have an account in your client to edit. (If not follow your client's help files and basic directions to set up an account. Then use the following instructions to edit that account). Select the Servers tab. Incoming server is "mail.yaomail.com". Outgoing is according to the directions of your ISP. Click the Advanced tab. Under Incoming mail, type "995" for POP3 or "993" for IMAP; check "This server requires a secure connection (SSL).

mail.vfemail.net is your POP/SMTP/IMAP server name. Use your username@vfemail.net as your login name, and your password as your password. If your client supports it, change your SMTP port from 25 to 587. If you're a paid user, use authorized.vfemail.net as your SMTP server. This will allow you to use the separate outgoing queue, and isolate you from spammers. If you have your own domain, you can create your own accounts in the administration Section.

You don't. Sendmail is a mail transfer agent whose primary purpose is to send and receive e-mail (primarily via SMTP). Sendmail does not implement any remote access protocols such as POP or IMAP. Eudora does not have support for our SSL certificates by default. If your Eudora client asks you to acept this certificate click "Okay". Otherwise, you will have to manually import the certificate. See the Email Client Configuration documentation on our Main Support Page for instructions on how to do this.

If your are interested in other data themes in relation to or independent of property-specific information and characteristics, use iMAP, but only if you have a high-speed Internet connection.

For best results, iMAP requires a fast Internet connection (DSL or better). It will work over a dial-up connection, but the initial loading of the site will be very slow. If you are interested only in property searches, try our faster-loading Parcel Viewer application.

Planned outages and known problems with these applications are noted under the heading "News" on the iMAP and Parcel Viewer main pages. If no relevant news is posted there but one of these applications is not working for you, there is still a good chance that the problem is centered on the application, especially if you have run iMAP and/or Parcel Viewer successfully on your computer in the past with the same computer and browser configuration you are using now.
