Frequently Asked Questions

Can I keep the sprouter in a basement or garage?

Wheatgrass Information from Grow Wheatgrass
You can keep it anywhere that it has the right requirements; light at least 14 hours a day, either from grow lights or sunlight and a temperature of at least 65 degrees. If there is no heat in the basement or garage then the seed won't grow well as it gets colder. The seed has pretty much the same requirements for growth and comfort as a human. It would not be my preference to keep it in the basement.

I want an attached garage and a basement. Is this possible?

Oak Creek Homes and Vic Cox Homes - Frequently asked questio...
YES, absolutely this is possible and in fact many homebuyers include such extras in their land/home packages. In the case of a basement there may be special requirements for placing of the home. If the basement is in-ground the home may be rolled-on to the foundation. If you have a daylight basement a crane may be necessary to lift and place the home onto the foundation. Garages can be attached or detached. Many of our customers construct pole buildings that serve as garages and/or shops.

Can I keep my crickets in my garage or basement?

FAQ From New York Worms
That depends upon how hot or cold the space is. Crickets should optimally be kept at 80 degrees F. and most garages or basements are too cold. The best way to maintain the temperature is with a light bulb in a reflector directly on the screen top of your cricket tank.

Why do I need a parking permit for the basement garage?

FAQs
The on site building manager requires each car in the basement have a parking permit. This helps him manage the number of cars each unit has there to prevent the garage area from becoming over crowded. Additionally, it helps find vehicle owners in the event a car needs to be moved or relocated for some reason.

CAN I CONVERT MY ATTIC, BASEMENT, OR GARAGE INTO LIVING SPACE?

Frequently Asked Building Questions
Finishing off an existing attic, basement, or garage may seem like a great way to create more living space, but it is important to do some 'homework' first. Check on the zoning and building requirments early in the process. You will save a lot of time and money knowing about County building standards in advance. Existing conditions could make it expensive, difficult, or even impossible for you to change your attic, basement, or garage into living space.

Do you think my architect will need the garage and/or basement level?

FAQs About Floor Plan
Most architects with whom we work expect to see the garage (if it’s attached) as well as the basement in a set of floor plans. We recommend asking your architect or city planning department whether or not documentation of the basement and/or garage level is required for your scope of work and the requisite permits.

Is the Sprouter Easy to Keep Clean?

FAQs-2 - More Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Once again my Sprouter is so much better than the factory ones with their built-in water compartments where slime builds up. With my Sprouter, you soak the mist nozzles in liquid cleaner once a month ? it's quick to unscrew them. I wipe out the growing container occasionally, and pour boiling hot water down the drain tube (which is easy to replace for 75c). I don't use chlorine because it makes the fish go blind.

Can the Sprouter Stay Out-doors?

FAQs-2 - More Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
Not in the northern hemisphere, except possibly in the south-west USA. Baby greens and sprouts thrive best in the 70's F ? temperatures should not go below 65° or above 85° F (18° to 29° C). You can always use an outdoor faucet connection ? lead the hose through an open window to your Sprouter inside, as I do.

Can We Have a Basement?

Frequently Asked Questions and Industry Glossary
Yes. The majority of our homes are built over full basements. Depending on the topography of the land, either a full basement or a crawl space can be used since our pre-cut log homes are constructed upon "conventional" sub floors with ease.

Typically, a trench is dug through the floor to get to the sewer line, which is then patched. Also, the bathroom must be vented through a sewer stack, and through a fan exhaust.

Walkouts typically have doors and windows to the outside and usually are as perilous as residences on grade. However, because they usually have a concrete slab foundation and some earth protected walls, they provide a good location for construction of an inresidence shelter. The above ground portion of partial basements are susceptible to wind forces and flying debris produced by severe wind events.

What Is The Daylight Basement I See On Some Of Your Home Plans?

Frequently Asked House Plans Questions
It is most often seen on sloping lots that allow a portion of the basement to have larger windows. Depending upon the amount of slope, you can often times have a door that walks directly out. There are also home plans listed with daylight basements that are simply built farther out of the ground thereby exposing part of the basement wall. These go under the names of "split-entry", "raised ranch", "bi-level" and "multi-level" home plans.

My Space is So Small ? I have to Put my Sprouter in a Bedroom. Can I Do that Without a Mess?

FAQs-2 - More Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
mentioned above, in my 12-ft x 6-ft space I could reach out and touch my Sprouter with my fingertips as I worked on my computer. It didn't disturb me when working or sleeping because my Sprouter's so quiet. It uses water pressure for misting, unlike all the other automatic sprouters which use electricity (so they have noisy motors). If you like to be 100% fail-safe, then it's easy to buy a leak detection system with automatic shut-off valve at the mains.

Can you grow other grains in this sprouter?

Wheatgrass Information from Grow Wheatgrass
Yes, you can grow barley, oats, buckwheat and sunflower seeds in the same way. Good barley and oat seed is hard to find. It is stated in the reference books that there is more difference in nutrient composition between two fields of wheat than in wheat and barley. Kamut is a waste of money. It's a bigger seed and takes up too much room. After testing I recommend Buckwheat Lettuce and Sunflower greens. Both taste delicious, are easy to grow and are full of nutients.

What is automatic on the big sprouter?

Wheatgrass Information from Grow Wheatgrass
It is the watering that is automatic. The sprouts are kept at the right level of moisture. This is only necessary if you are sick or gone a lot. With the two smaller sprouters you water them with a pitcher or a sprayer once a day. Since I added perlite to the growing mix the automatic watering is not really necessary.

What Space Does the Sprouter Need?

FAQs - Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
Ultimately, the Sprouter is any size you want it. Use a plastic storage box for the growing container ? you can get one at stores like Wal-Mart, Lowes, Home Depot and Home Base. A few of my readers across the world have built their own growing container. My Sprouter Plans show how to build a container of plexiglass or perspex, or to build a frame of PVC pipe or wood and cover it with plastic sheeting. This is useful if you live overseas and they don't have the big box you want.
