Continuing education became mandatory January 1, 1995. Every year, dentists must complete 15 hours and hygienists must complete 6 hours. In addition, every licensee is required to maintain current CPR certification. The number of hours completed each year is reported on the license renewal form and no documentation of course work should be sent to the Board’s office.

Courses which are not approved by TDLR as continuing education courses can not be used for license renewal. If the college course is a TDLR approved continuing education course, then the course hours can be used for license renewal. However, the courses must be taken during the period of the license being renewed.

No, a licensee shall be exempt from continuing education requirements for the first annual renewal following the date of initial licensure. Upon written request from the licensee explaining the circumstances, the Board may grant an exemption or waiver in cases of certified illness or undue hardship. For agents licensed in Florida for at least 6 years when their compliance period begins, only 20 hours is required. These 20 hours must be in Intermediate or Advanced classes, not basic. All Florida appraisers must complete 30 hours of continuing education for each two-year license, registration, or certification period. That depends upon how long your license has been inactive. Yes. Beginning in January 2008, a licensee who has been lapsed for more than the current renewal period must document having earned at least 24 hours in the two years prior to reinstatement. A license that has been lapsed for less than two years will be required to earn a pro-rated number of hours, e.g., a licensee that has been lapsed for thirteen months must have 13 hours of Continuing Education credits within the last two years in order to reinstate.

All counselors need to have 30 hours of CEU's in a two-year period. The period began August 1, 2006 and ends July 31, 2008. They can be turned in as they acquire them, yearly when they turn in their renewals or every two years. The next two-year period will begin August 1, 2008 and will end July 31, 2010.
